JOB SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Manager Outbound Transportation is responsible for providing leadership that will enable the transportation team to manage and improve the transportation of merchandise to Ulta Beauty’s retail stores. This role manages and develops transportation team members, oversees the management of core carrier relationships, contracts, carrier compliance, drives continuous process improvement, and leads the development of metrics reports.  The Manager Outbound Transportation will build strategic partnerships across the organization to understand key challenges and lead transportation initiatives that will remove obstacles and provide the optimal balance of service, capacity, and cost.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing team of Transportation Analysts responsible for the day-to-day execution of all tactical and transactional functions for Ulta Beauty’s outbound retail transportation .  Clearly communicate vision, priorities, drive strong engagement and lead team in delivering exceptional results. 
• Manage the day-to-day performance of the outbound retail transportation operations through the establishment of processes and procedures with clear expectations using defined and to-be-developed metrics (KPI's), that drives superior performance.
• Oversee the management of carriers to ensure their performance and capacity perform to target. Identify opportunities with operational inefficiencies with existing carriers, solution and device clear plans for improvements delivering cost savings and/or service improvements.
• Lead the team in quickly resolving service challenges. 
• Serve as an escalation point for outbound retail transportation issues for internal and external partners. 
• Lead key strategic projects.
• Lead the development and implementation of continuous improvement efforts.
• Oversee the development, maintenance and publishing of carrier and transportation scorecards, reports, and dashboards.  Lead monthly and quarterly business/performance reviews.   
• Play an active role in procurement sourcing activities by assisting with RFP preparation and data collection, analyzing carrier rate proposals, contracting, and providing objective operational input to improve sourcing strategies.
• Provide support for future distribution and network changes, system installation and updates, new product launches, and new store openings.
• Partner with Sr. Manager Transportation to develop and implement detailed best practices and processes to support best in class vision of future supply chain strategies. 
• Lead and support enterprise level projects to improve and enhance capabilities.
• Prepare executive-level reports and presentations.
• Continually evolve the team through introduction and deployment of industry leading practices.
• Manage shipment exceptions, shipment prioritization, direct to store and expedited shipments.
• Identify potential new service providers.
• Lead and support spot rate negotiation.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in domestic transportation industry with progressively increasing responsibility; hands on experience managing linehaul, cross-dock, expedited and final mile/white-glove deliveries, and dedicated fleets.
• Minimum 3 years managing a team.
• Our business moves quickly and dynamically; must be adequately experienced in supply chain operations to be able to navigate the daily trade-offs and prioritization required to support our store network.  Proven ability to multitask, prioritize, and lead in an extremely fast-paced environment.
• Strong aptitude to think critically, solve problems, and drive improvements in a professional and respectful manner.
• Advanced skills in the following areas: communication (oral & written), interpersonal, analytical, reporting, organizational, project management and leadership.
• Advanced Microsoft Office Suite proficiency required.
• Ability to analyze large subsets of data using Microsoft Excel, using shortcuts /VLOOKUP/formulas/macros/pivot functions required (Advanced Excel skillset).
• Proven experience managing carrier relationships.
• Skillful negotiator with strong ability to influence.
• Hands-on experience using E2Open or similar transportation management systems (TMS).
• Experience utilizing Project44 or other visibility tools, ERP, BI tools, Tableau and SAP.
• Strong in-depth knowledge of Supply Chain and KPIs.
• Work effectively within a team environment.  Ability to build collaborative relationships at various levels and influence decisions.
• Self-motivated and able to manage by exception.
• Customer oriented.
• Understanding of system design, development and experience performing user acceptance testing.

• Ability to be part of rotational weekend coverage schedule and support after-hours operations on an as needed basis.

• Detail oriented.

• Job/Office location: Hybrid remote in Bolingbrook, IL
• Office – 50%
• Travel 10%/year.
