Job description

Position Summary

The Radiology Research Laboratory at Houston Methodist Research Institute invites applications for the position of Research Associate. We are seeking a qualified chemist who will contribute expertise to support our mission of discovering and developing innovative diagnostic methods and drug candidates.

Candidates should hold a doctoral degree and possess a comprehensive understanding of various imaging contrast agents, along with extensive knowledge in synthesis, purification, structure confirmation, and hands-on experience with spectrometers and chromatographs. The role involves radiolabeling of molecules and imaging acquisition using small-animal scanning equipment, such as integrated magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET), single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), computed tomography (CT), and optical imaging scanners. The Associate will engage in collaborative projects, contribute to grant applications, write scientific reports and manuscripts for publication, and deliver scientific presentations.

Responsibilities

· Conduct synthesis of chemical products, analyze their structures, and characterize molecular candidates for the development of molecular imaging probes.

· Determine the composition of organic and inorganic compounds through analysis.

· Perform qualitative and quantitative experiments, considering the volume and structure of ingredients.

· Customize formulas and utilize various reagents to test chemical reactions.

· Develop unique tests for chemical products and refine these products to enhance their quality.

· Analyze data collected from characterizing assays, cell studies, and animal imaging studies.

· Write technical reports on test results and manuscripts for publication.

· Participate in grant applications and prepare progress reports.

· Adhere to laboratory health and safety guidelines.

· Maintain laboratory equipment, troubleshooting or reporting malfunctions as necessary.

Job Level and Salary : Compensation for this position is commensurate with experience.

Eligibility : Applicants must possess U.S. citizenship, permanent residency status, or an Employment Authorization Document (Form I-766/EAD).

Minimum Qualifications

A qualified candidate should hold a PhD or equivalent doctorate degree in a related field, such as chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical & biological imaging. A minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience is preferred. Primary computer and Microsoft Office skills are required. The ability to communicate effectively is needed. Knowledge and working experience in medical imaging, especially in MRI, PET, and SPECT, is highly preferred. Occupational safety and health, hazardous materials, and ionizing radiation training will be required.
