ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

This position is part of the Advancement and Protections Section, which includes Communicable Disease, TB, Infection Prevention, Immunizations, STD, HIV Programming. It is part of the regional Infection Prevention Team responsible for Case and Outbreak Response, Surveillance, and Prevention in congregate settings in the Central Oregon region and will provide back-up to communicable disease cases and outbreaks outside of congregate settings.

ABOUT THE JOB:

The Public Health Nurse II – Infection Prevention and Communicable Disease Nurse is to work in Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson counties. This position will also provide infection prevention consultation and education to institutions that serve vulnerable populations (long term care facilities, child care facilities, schools, shelters, etc.) and will work with local providers, labs, and hospitals on reporting requirements of communicable diseases to local public health. In the case of a public health emergency, this position is expected to participate as a member of the incident command system (ICS), as needed.

Compensation

$5,908.27 to $7,917.64 per month for a 172.67 hour work month. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This union-represented position is available immediately.

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.

Must have dependable transportation and be willing and able to drive throughout Central Oregon in sometimes adverse weather conditions.

Physical Requirements.Must have the ability to work in an office environment that is environmentally controlled; possess sufficient hand coordination to perform keyboarding and data entry; arm/hand movements to retrieve work materials and operate a variety of general office equipment; ambulatory ability to drive throughout Central Oregon in sometimes adverse weather conditions; and an ability to sit, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, reach, stand grasp, talk, hear, see, and may occasionally lift up to 10 pounds on an occasional basis.

This position requires an Associate's degree in Nursing; AND two (2) years of relevant experience; OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the essential functions of the job. Successful candidates must have the ambulatory ability to drive throughout Central Oregon and to provide face-to-face services in a variety of settings in the community, including hospitals, jails, clinics, client homes, schools, etc. Applicants must also be willing and able to drive throughout Deschutes County in sometimes adverse weather conditions.
