Packaging Designer Location San Diego, CA :
Packaging Designer would be responsible for planning, designing, and developing packaging for Stephen Gould's products applying packaging materials in a variety of contexts. This position ensures that the packaging is practical and efficient; allowing the product to be contained inside with proper labelling. This might include designing how products should be packaged for tech industry, helping to eliminate plastics and reduce dimensional weight and Sku count considering all quality and governmental regulations.
The Opportunity
The Packaging Designer will be responsible for package and process development and improvement, equipment, and material sourcing/qualifications.
Position Summary
This is responsible for working closely with the sales team designing corrugated packaging, rigid boxes, foam displays and cushion packaging. Must also be able to manipulate design files. You will coordinate projects in conjunction with Sales & Operations Managers to ensure projects are completed on time. This position interacts with internal and external customers regarding scope of projects. This position is critical in providing innovative, cost effective and structurally sound packaging, displays and merchandising solutions for internal and external customers.
Position Functions:
- Expert understanding of project timeline development.
- Demonstrated effective communications (verbally and in writing) across internal and external teams.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage time efficiently and effectively across multiple activities and tasks simultaneously.
- Development of product packaging and display concepts, including collaboration with management, production, designers, sales representatives, and customers to ensure high quality of design solutions.
- Works with Sales to market design products and their capabilities.
- Participates in brainstorming sessions with internal/external customers and vendors on new packaging and display development.
- Creates innovative design solutions and produces samples to meet customer requirements.
- Conducts research relating to technology, techniques, innovations, new products, and materials that are beneficial to the Company and its customers that enhance packaging form, fit and function.
- Champions redesigns to foster environmental sustainability, cost savings initiatives and sales strategy.
- Works with Sales and Product Development Managers & customers in conceptualization of design solutions with quick sketches and CAD visualization.
- Engineers and produces prototypes using various materials (Corrugated, Chipboard foam, Foam Core, Tapes, etc.), and building techniques.
- Turns sketched drafts into 2D/3D display models/prototypes with the use of cutting tables and various knife tools.
- Follows best practices for structure creation, as well as software use and layout design following company standards and customer brand guidelines.
- Liaison between internal & external customers regarding scope of special projects related to application, technical specs, Bill of Materials, quantity, & production status.
- Effectively manages multiple projects and provides ongoing status reports to key stakeholders.
- Works assigned schedule and works on special projects as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:
Education - Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school) or Work Equivalent, Field of Study: Packaging engineer, Graphic Design or Related Field
- Experience
- 2-5 years of experience in Packaging Engineering/Graphic Structural Design with Corrugated Packaging and Displays.
- Excellent project and time management skills
Computer/ equipment Skills
- Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), Ardios CAD, Solid Works, 3D Printing
