Position Summary

The Construction Management (CM) program in the School of Planning, Design & Construction (SPDC) at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for a full-time, Fixed Term Teaching Specialist, with an expected start date of August 16, 2024. This position is an academic year (9-month) appointment, with 90% teaching and 10% service. The appointment will be for at least three years, contingent on positive annual performance reviews.

The selected candidate will teach three classes per semester (six per academic year), at the undergraduate or graduate level, including two or more of following: construction methods and materials, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP), building science, building information modeling (BIM), real estate development and finance, structural analysis and design, estimating, scheduling, contracts & specifications, project management, sustainable built environment, and infrastructure construction . In addition to teaching, the selected candidate will be expected to provide service to the CM program and the school, which will include supporting student activities, maintain relationship with industry, attending faculty meetings and serving on appropriate committees.

We desire to recruit candidates who will set and achieve goals for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in their teaching and service efforts, targeting students and industry leaders in construction management.

Required Degree

Master’s degree in Construction Management or related field by position start date.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum qualifications for this position include: 1) A Master’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering and Management, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Real Estate, Business Administration, or a closely related field; 2) Three or more years of U.S. Construction Management experience; and 3) Strong communication skills.

Relevant professional licensing or certifications.

The Construction Management program has a nationally recognized program that awards an ACCE accredited baccalaureate degree as well as master’s and Ph.D. Degrees in Construction Management. The program currently has 9 full-time faculty members, an undergraduate student advisor, and approximately 280 undergraduate students and 25 graduate students. The School of Planning, Design, and Construction unites four academic programs related to the built environment: Construction Management, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, and Urban and Regional Planning, with 43 faculty and academic specialists, and 8 staff members.
