Job description

Maintains Berkley Fire & Marine claims standards in a Technical Specialist capacity while supporting the business strategy initiatives and financial return goals through claim excellence. Extensive and diversified technical property and inland marine claim handling expertise will be utilized to adjust first party property and inland marine claims of assigned severity. The role will also provide support to the Claims organization in a technical consulting capacity and closely collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (Claims, Underwriting, Agents, and beyond).

Additionally, the Technical Specialist will consistently seek opportunities for improvement claim standards and processes and will pro-actively adjust to changing dynamics.

 

1. Manage a pending of first party Commercial Property and Inland Marine claims with complex coverage and/or damages aspects and varying degrees of severity, including those with time-element exposure
2. Proactively provide technical and tactical direction and supervision of independent adjusters, experts and attorneys
3. Proactively manage file inventory and make timely referrals to subrogation and special investigation units
4. Strictly adhere to and operate within assigned authority; timely identify and notify leadership of claims meeting established reporting criteria
5. Ensure claim management and case reserves are consistent with company guidelines and philosophy
6. Proactively develop and maintain excellent customer service focused relationships with Insureds, agents and other stakeholders
7. Enthusiastically share technical expertise and creative resolution techniques with Claims colleagues
8. Continuously look for ways to improve claims processes and outcomes. Share value-added recommendations
9. Act as a technical resource by sharing knowledge and collaboration with all departments
10. Demonstrates the WRBC Core Competencies and Innovation Behaviors while performing the Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• All claim adjusting positions require positive results in the following areas of performance: Meeting established goals, dependability, customer service, teamwork, management control, judgment, decisiveness and technical ability.
• Excellent analytical skills. The position requires reasoning ability to examine and evaluate coverage and liability issues, examine and comprehend data furnished in written or oral form. Apply practical mathematical skills commonly used in the adjusting of property and casualty claims.
• Excellent communicator (verbal and written). The ideal candidate will exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Enjoys collaboration and interacting with others. Must possess the ability to maintain constructive working relationships with internal and external customers despite differing perspectives.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• Accomplished commercial P&C insurance professional (10+ years)
• Seasoned commercial property & inland marine claims expertise, including demonstrated ability in dealing with significant coverage matters
• Must secure/maintain all necessary state adjuster licenses and CE credits.
• Must be able to work independently in an entrepreneurial environment.
