Job description
Frisco Chorale, now in its 30th season, has been singing in Frisco and the surrounding
area since 1994. The Chorus began with 12 singers rehearsing in the founding
director’s home and has grown to involve scores of singers who call Frisco their singing
home.
Frisco Chorale programming is characterized by eclectic mixes of classic and modern
repertoire (choral standards, classical selections, and popular styles – including
Broadway, patriotic, Americana, etc.).
Our vision also includes the expansion of choral art by performance, DEI cultural
education, and arts partnerships with the city and community involvement.
Position Overview
The Music Director is responsible for the artistic vision of the Frisco Chorale and serves
on the Frisco Chorale’s Board of Directors. This individual is accountable for all musical
and artistic decisions, and – together with the Board of Directors – conceptualizes,
schedules, and produces the annual concert season.
The Music Director selects and executes the music within a season’s activities:
rehearsals, performances, recordings, tours, etc., on a schedule appropriate to the
organization’s annual plan and within approved budget. The Music Director’s duties
include overall responsibility for all performances conducted under the organization,
including school and community outreach performances. This person is responsible for
keeping the Board of Directors informed of pertinent artistic issues and opportunities.
Job Description
Season Plan: The Music Director is responsible for developing and producing a season
plan, coordinating repertoire selection, and conducting concerts.
Auditions: The Music Director auditions prospective members and reevaluates
continuing chorus members on a regular basis.
Rehearsals: The Music Director conducts rehearsals of the chorus. If it is necessary for
the Music Director to miss a rehearsal(s), s/he will ensure the integrity of rehearsal time
conducted by substitute staff.
Financial: The Music Director works within the parameters of approved annual budgets
(adopted by the Board of Directors).
Public Relations: The Music Director may be called upon to network/represent the
Frisco Chorale to the general public, city officials, the press, and the arts community.
Artistic Growth: The Music Director has primary responsibility for the overall artistic
quality/growth of the chorus. The Music Director will contribute to the strategic planning
of the organization regarding the artistic product and brand, musical needs of the
organization and growth of chorus membership.
Supervisory Responsibilities: The Music Director is responsible for selection and
supervision of contracted guest professionals, such as vocalists, instrumentalists,
choreographers, dancers, and narrators, etc.
Administrative Responsibilities: The Music Director attends regular meetings of the
Board of Directors. The Music Director attends meetings of various chorus
committees/subgroups as may be desirable for or necessary to the operation of the
organization.

Qualification & Experience:
A Master’s Degree in music, preferably in choral conducting. A combination of
education and/or comparable work experience may be considered in lieu of
educational requirements.
Consummate and expert knowledge of singing and vocal production.
Demonstrated success in directing a chorus of similar type with similar artistic
goals for a minimum of three years preferred.
Demonstrated leadership style that successfully balances high expectations with
an encouraging, nurturing personal approach.
Experience working with a volunteer-based chorus, comprised of singers with
varying music skillsets.
Experience in planning and executing cohesive concert programs that are
entertaining and characterized by high artistic and production values.
Strong leadership, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to meet deadlines and financial targets.
Additional Highly Desired Qualities:
Development and fundraising experience with a non-profit arts organization.
Facility in arrangement and/or composition.
Competent piano/keyboard skills.
Compensation
The Music Director position’s salary is negotiable – based on prior experience.

A proposed outline for a season of concerts consisting of three major
performances – holiday, spring and summer.
Two video recordings of performances conducted demonstrating musical artistry.
Any additional materials the applicant believes will support the application (e.g.
samples of arrangements or compositions, audio recordings of performances,
etc.).
Finally, selected candidates will be scheduled to audition by conducting the chorus in
rehearsal. Audition details will be forwarded to those selected candidates.
