Job description

Overview

Child Abuse Pediatrician

Dartmouth Health Children’s and Geisel School of Medicine

The Department of Pediatrics at Dartmouth Health Children’s and The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth seeks a board certified/eligible Child Abuse Pediatrician who can assume medical directorship of the Ken & Vickie French Child Advocacy and Protection Program (CAPP) after a period of transition.

Dartmouth Health Children’s is the pediatric service of Dartmouth Health, an integrated academic healthcare delivery system for northern New England anchored by Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) in Lebanon, New Hampshire. We provide an extended system of care with primary, specialty, and advanced tertiary pediatric services, including an inpatient pediatric unit with PICU, level II Pediatric Trauma Center, and level III NICU at our flagship Children’s Hospital at DHMC (CHaD). We also operate a comprehensive ambulatory specialty center at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinic in Manchester, the largest city in the state, and 10 pediatric primary care medical homes across the region. Dartmouth Health Children’s is committed to addressing systemic racism and other forms of oppression to assure that all children and adolescents can live their healthiest, happiest lives.

CAPP is a trauma-informed multidisciplinary program of approximately 40 staff providing comprehensive assessment and care in its four clinical locations for children suspected of experiencing child maltreatment residing in Northern New England including New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine in collaboration with similar programs in the latter two states. Our patient services include robust outpatient clinics, hospital-based inpatient consults, and an on-call triage system for the region. Our program provides consultation and training for Dartmouth Health faculty and residents, Child Advocacy Centers, Child Protection Services, Law Enforcement, Prosecution, and other community stakeholders. We engage in advocacy from institutional to statewide legislation, and provide collaborative leadership to state agencies.

Teaching residents and medical students is expected, so eligibility for appointment to the faculty at The Geisel School of Medicine is required, at a rank commensurate with experience and academic portfolio. CAPP conducts primary research, with opportunities across Dartmouth's campuses including world-class traditional biomedical research, global health initiatives, and renowned leadership in quality improvement, outcome, and healthcare delivery sciences at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice.

The qualified candidate will demonstrate a history of leadership roles and/or potential capacity, especially in building systems in child abuse pediatrics and dedication to QI and workforce development. The successful candidate will be expected to help CAPP achieve center of excellence status, supported by generous philanthropic funding from benefactors, and potentially develop an ACGME-accredited child abuse pediatrics fellowship.

Faculty at Dartmouth Health enjoy the rare opportunity to combine high level academic medicine with a serene and stress-free living environment. Lebanon is part of the Upper Connecticut River Valley, home to Dartmouth College and its abundant cultural and enrichment activities along with four season outdoors activities. Greater Manchester is often ranked among the best small cities in the United States for quality of life. With destinations like Boston, New York, Montreal, the seacoast and ski country within short driving distance, this is an ideal place to work, play, raise a family and live.
