Duties
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs assigned Forensic Services duties in the following sections: crime scene investigation, evidence processing laboratory, trace evidence laboratory, digital photography processing and back up and ten print card verification through the automated fingerprint identification system.
- Processes, photographs, and collects crime scene evidence. Process and photographs submitted evidence utilizing specialized equipment.
- Prepares evidence, crime scene, and chain of custody reports.
- Testifies in civil and criminal court as an expert witness as required.
- Research latent fingerprint development methods. Fingerprints victims/suspects for latent fingerprint comparisons.
- Obtains evidence from victims and suspects, including deceased, decomposed, and dismembered at various locations including crime scenes, hospitals, medical examiner's office, and department of corrections. This may require being exposed to biohazards while donning personal protective equipment.
- Cleans and maintains evidence collection equipment.
- Obtains fingerprints from applicants for various reasons using the live scan fingerprint equipment.
- Performs experiments.
- Provides training and support to patrol, detectives, and outside agencies.
- Attends training and maintains Certifications.
- Assists with the decontamination, and maintenance of supplies, chemicals, tools, equipment, work areas, and vehicles.
- Files film, fingerprint, and sex offender information.
- Performs routine clerical duties.
- Maintains supplies and provides input for budgeting.
- Works a variety of shifts with on-call and call-out responsibilities on weekends and holidays. Subject to periods of extended overtime.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and crime scene investigation, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
Job Experience
Certifications
- Certification required in fingerprint classification, latent fingerprint techniques, death investigation and evidence technician specialist. Member of The Missouri Division of the IAI, Expert witness, Live Scan Certification, AFIS Certification, REJIS Certification, MULES Certification required (Certifications are not mandated prior to employment).
