JOB SUMMARY
At Houston Methodist, the Senior Staff Pharmacist position is responsible for an expanded clinical role that may include responsibility for proactive review of patient profiles, participation in basic clinical functions such as discharge counseling, medication histories, completion of pharmacy consults, and participation in special projects. This position provides day-to-day comprehensive, patient oriented pharmacy services in any or all areas of the department to include processing orders, therapy review, and education to patients and other members of the direct patient care team. Other duties include serving as a role model and preceptor for staff pharmacists, pharmacy students, and residents in the integration of clinical and distributive services in the Department. This position also contributes to fulfilling the department’s mission by collaborating to provide innovative, personalized, cost effective pharmaceutical care in a culture dedicated to quality and safety.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
o Graduate of education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below in the Certifications, Licenses and Registrations section
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
o Must have one of the following:
o Successful completion of an ASHP-accredited post-graduate year one (PGY1) residency training program
o Three years of pharmacist experience applicable to the specific work setting (e.g., hospital, specialty pharmacy)
o One year of experience precepting pharmacist students and/or pharmacy residents
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
o Texas Pharmacist License or eligible for Texas Pharmacist License; must obtain licensure within 90 days of employment
o American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification within 90 days of employment
o Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification and training within 90 days of employment as determined by entity need (See manager for details and tracking certification information)
o Texas Pharmacist Preceptor Certification within 90 days of employment
o Sterile Compounding and Aseptic Technique (SCAT) and horizontal and/or vertical use Certification within 90 days of employment (*If verifying and/or preparing any sterile product- See manager for details and tracking certification information)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
o Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations
o Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security
o Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles
o Exhibits strong interpersonal, teamwork and leadership skills with all levels of the healthcare team and assures delivery of excellent customer service to all patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers; capable of assuming responsibility for coordinating the activities of a major pharmacy service area
o Knowledge and skills in comprehensive pharmacy services and rational drug therapy including unit-dose drug distribution, intravenous admixture preparation, nutrition support services, and target drug monitoring
o Ability to assist in the coordination and supervision of activities of a major pharmacy service area
o Demonstrates the knowledge of advanced principles regarding rational drug therapy, including but not limited to, professional and technical competence in the selection, evaluation, utilization, and distribution of drugs and drug information and apply these to all patient groups, neonate to geriatric
o Working knowledge of medical information systems and their design, development, and integration into clinical practice
o Proficient in all areas of pharmacy technology
o Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and work effectively with team and stakeholders to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness
o Computer skills to include proficiency in MS Office and EMR software

Houston Methodist The Woodlands opened in 2017 as the eighth hospital in the Houston Methodist system. This 187-bed, 470,000-square-foot, full-service, acute care hospital offers many of the same services as our flagship hospital in the Texas Medical Center. Also on the $380 million hospital campus, located at the intersection of I-45 and TX 242, is a medical office building, which opened in 2016. Medical Office Building 1 includes a breast care center, cancer center & infusion center, orthopedics & sports medicine, rehabilitation services, wellness services, and an outpatient laboratory in addition to multi-specialty physician practices. A second medical office building and 785-car parking garage opened in 2018.
