Job description
Congressional School seeks a STEM Educator for 2024-2025 academic year. The STEM Educator is responsible for developing, implementing, assessing and modifying a dynamic STEM program for students across all grades that aligns with Congressional School's mission, vision, and values. The STEM Teacher will teach a combination of elementary school science and middle school STEM electives in robotics, design, computer science and/or engineering. The STEM Teacher will work collaboratively to develop curriculum that strives for interdisciplinary connections, enhances existing programs, and complements existing STEM initiatives. The STEM Teacher is positive, collaborative, innovative, and passionate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach a combination of elementary science, and middle school STEM electives in robotics, design, computer science and/or engineering.
- Provide a hands-on, inquiry-based learning experience tailored to individual student needs.
- Collaboratively plan, observe classes, and design cross-curricular projects with members of a dynamic Congressional faculty..
- Collaborate and co-teach with colleagues.
- Responsible for managing and maintaining the design lab and equipment.
- Create a classroom environment that is safe, conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and assessments
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, curricular units, and projects.
- Coordinate and help organize special science and STEM events/activities.
- Maintain a high level of awareness regarding research and recent developments on programs that will benefit students in STEM
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned by the Division Director
- Actively support the School's vision, mission and core values
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in math, science, engineering computer science or related field; preferably a Master's degree in mathematics, education, or related field
- Minimum of three years' experience teaching in an elementary and/or middle school setting, pr eferably in an independent school
- Knowledge of current theories, techniques and methodologies of STEM
- Strong initiative and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- An ability to work in a joyful, collegial and collaborative environment
- A sense of humor, warm personality, and growth mindset
