GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking to hire a Nongame Bat Biologist to implement Wyoming’s State Wildlife Action Plan while overseeing Wyoming’s Nongame Bat Program. This will include coordination of Wyoming’s white-nose syndrome response as well as implementation and coordination of bat management plans and monitoring.

- Coordinates Wyoming’s bat program by developing and implementing management and research projects that address needs identified in Wyoming's State Wildlife Action Plan and benefit nongame Species of Greatest Conservation Need.
- Represent the Department on a wide variety of interagency recovery, conservation, and working groups.
- Develops and disseminates technical and non-technical information regarding bat species to the public, agencies, and NGOs.
- Maintains and updates nongame databases to ensure contiguous and seamless data.
- Coordinates the management, conservation, inventory, and monitoring of Threatened, Endangered, and Species of Greatest Conservation needs across multi-jurisdictional boundaries.
- Establishes management goals and objectives, conducts field surveys and analyzes data; collaborates with Department personnel to plan habitat proposals to ensure consideration of game and nongame needs.
- Makes recommendations to guide policies or procedures by diagnosing and addressing complex programs that require technical knowledge.
- Reviews all biological data on bats collected within the work unit and fulfills annual reporting requirements.
- Provides comments on Wildlife Environmental Reviews to the Department's Habitat Protection Program and assists Regional Wildlife Biologists with their review process.
PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Preference may be given to those with a Bachelor's Degree in wildlife management or closely related fields.
Preference will also be given to candidates with a Master's Degree with an emphasis in nongame, as well as work experience related to bats.
Preference will be given to candidates willing to be stationed within the Lander region.
**Must have a valid driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE: - Knowledge of the life history and ecology of western bat species as well as data collection techniques such as visual and acoustic identification using a variety of methodologies and equipment live capture and marking techniques, night surveys, snow machines, cross-country skis, and snowshoes.
- Knowledge of white-nose syndrome, its effects on bat populations, and understanding of white-nose sampling and decontamination protocol.
- Ability to communicate and coordinate the use of wildlife data collection techniques for nongame mammals to attain management goals and objectives.
- Knowledge of management and conservation issues pertaining to bats such as analysis of population trends, distribution, and movement data; analysis of habitat suitability for nongame mammals; intra-and interagency communication.
- Ability to develop survey techniques, analyze data, infer population trends from a wide variety of data sets, and advocate for Species of Greatest Conservation Need.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively under adverse weather and working conditions with little to no supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Section supervisor and other Department employees, nongame temporary and contract employees supervised by the Nongame Section Supervisor, as well as personnel from other agencies.
- Ability to use and teach others to use a variety of equipment to complete surveys and attain management objectives, such as 4-wheel drive vehicles, snow machines, all-terrain vehicles, computer software, mammal capture equipment, and optical equipment.
- Intermediate knowledge of the agency and organizational programs and policies necessary to effectively lead work units and accomplish programmatic objectives.
- Basic knowledge of fiscal procedures, including contributing to budget development and remaining within an assigned budget.
- Knowledge and ability to diagnose and resolve complex problems that pertain to programmatic objectives and potential conflicts relating to the work unit.
- Excellent physical condition and able to work outdoors under challenging conditions.
- Knowledge of wilderness survival skills and ability to use a variety of tools and equipment to accomplish statewide management goals and objectives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Wildlife Management)
Experience: 1-2 years progressive work experience (typically in Wildlife Management) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Wildlife Biologist II

4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Wildlife Management) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Wildlife Biologist II

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- The position requires lifting heavy objects and strenuous physical exertion at times. Must be able to lift 50 lbs or more.
- Be able to work in various weather conditions and environments.
- Must be willing to perform non-technical subterranean surveys.
- Must be willing to be rabies vaccinated.
- Must be able to work all days of the week and varied work hours, including weekends, holidays, and early mornings, evenings/late nights, and spending the night(s) in remote locations either in a tent, camper, or cabin. This position is on call to respond to job requirements.
- Travel is required.

- FLSA: Exempt
- Successful applicants for employment must pass a background check before appointment.
- Work location may be based anywhere statewide, however, Lander is preferred.
- CDL is not required for this position.
