What You'll Be Working On:
As a Test and Evaluation Engineer at Foundation Alloy, you will play a critical role in supporting our R&D team in the design, development, and testing of novel materials. You will be involved in testing, laboratory operations, troubleshooting, and data analysis to bring our materials to life. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, comfort with ambiguity, and a bias towards action.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare material samples for analysis, alloy processing, laboratory setup, analytical equipment maintenance, and documentation
- Conduct bench-scale experiments and tests to collect data and analyze the performance of materials and processes
- Manufacture customer parts to high-quality standards (e.g., machining, 3D printing, etc.), conduct post-processing, and pack/ship parts
- Troubleshoot issues with lab equipment and systems
- Collaborate with commercial and R&D cross-functional teams to accelerate product development
- Prepare detailed documentation including: project plans, status reports, test results, and data analyses
- Maintain, operate, and calibrate technical equipment in safe manner
- Provide technical support and develop training programs for other team members
Qualifications:
- Associate degree or higher in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Material Science, or a related field
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and ability to apply them in practical scenarios
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs
- Strong working knowledge of Google workspace (Gmail, Slides, Docs, etc.) and Slack
Preferred Skills:
- Prior experience in metallurgy, laboratory testing, or similar role
- Familiarity with inspection methods and equipment (e.g., sample preparation, optical imaging, physical inspection)
- Prior experience with powder metallurgy, machining, 3D printing, and/or other related fields
- Familiarity with general industrial laboratory environmental health and safety policies, procedures and waste handling
