Our Organization and Mission:

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is the state’s lead agency for environmental management and stewardship - protecting our air, water and land. The vision of DEP is to create strong community partnerships, safeguard Florida’s natural resources and enhance its ecosystem.

The Work You Will Do:

The Office of Resilience and Coastal Protection’s (ORCP) Coral Protection and Restoration (CPR) Program is seeking to hire a full-time OPS Environmental Specialist III (working title: Program Assistant). This position is a core member of the CPR Program and will provide technical, planning, procedural and budget recommendations to the leadership team. The CPR Program is primarily responsible for guiding national and state coral reef policy to ensure effective state-wide coral reef-related authorities, policies and procedures; providing leadership for disease and bleaching response, restoration of Florida’s Coral Reef, and regional water quality priorities; and effectively administering state funding for Florida’s Coral Reef priorities.

The Difference You Will Make:

The Office of Resilience and Coastal Protection CPR Program strives to achieve a more synergized and unified goal of protecting and restoring Florida’s Coral Reef by ensuring optimal quality, longevity, and health of these resources over time.

How You Will Grow:

DEP encourages its leaders to constantly innovate and seek efficiencies. We believe in supporting and encouraging you as you take on important and often complex projects while offering you the opportunity to gain valuable experience quickly.

Where You Will Work:

This position is being offered in either West Palm Beach or Dania Beach, FL:

West Palm Beach is Palm Beach County's capital city and its cultural center. Its active downtown stretches from a scenic pier on the Lake Worth Lagoon to a waterfront Great Lawn, which hosts a weekly green market, outdoor concerts and this season a 35-foot-tall holiday sandcastle. Dozens of local beaches provide easy access to both the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. Several State Parks as well as National Parks are in the immediate area as well.

Dania Beach is Broward County’s first city and has an award-winning beach, pier and marina location you'll want to discover! The city is located immediately south of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Port Everglades, and the Broward County Convention Center. Boasting proximity to the coast and centrally located to popular tourist destinations in both Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Dania Beach is a highly desirable location for both those seeking their first job or those ready to enter the next exciting chapter in their career. The DEP office is located at Nova Southeastern University’s Guy Harvey Oceanographic Center within the state's award-winning Von D. Mizell and Eula Johnson State Park. Also, with no state income tax, Florida is a great place to work regardless of where you find yourself on the career ladder.
