Director of Engineering – Modular Construction Manufacturer – Base Salary to 150k/year - Troy, MI

- They are seeking aDirector of Engineering for their Troy, MI office. This position will report to the Vice President of Engineering, Research & Development. They are looking for someone who is highly detailed-oriented, thorough, analytical, and who manages teams and people well. The Director of Engineering will direct and supervise Engineers, perform technical design work, and provide oversight and coordination with cross-functional teams. The Director of Engineering involves participation in project meetings and client meetings, as well as some travel to plants and other offices. As the Director of Engineering, you will lead the structural design of steel modular buildings, oversee the development of structural details to conform to company production standards, and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the engineering department, including the MEP design team.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all operational activities of the Engineering Department
- Organize the engineering department and meet weekly with staff.
- Lead communication with internal and external teammates and clients.
- Prepare and/or review SD’s, DD’s, and CD’s
- Review building codes to ensure correct implementation of modular design.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Architects, Civil Engineers, and MEP Engineers
- Produce and/or review structural calculations.
- Review shop drawings to confirm compliance with the design drawings and project intent.
- Review and approve engineering consultant proposals.
- Write reports and present them to clients in addition to other parties, as necessary.
- Manage the allocation of resources and personnel within the department.
- Work directly with executive leadership team.
Qualifications:
- BS degree (MS preferred) in Structural, Civil, or Architectural Engineering
- PE License preferably with an NCEES record
- 15 + years of relevant engineering experience including steel building design.
- Ability to prepare structural designs for steel, concrete, masonry, and light gage steel.
- A good understanding of welding design.
- Multi story building design experience.
- Proficient in structural analysis software (preferably RISA).
- Experience managing teams of engineers and drafters.
- Have a good understanding of basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Ability to travel (approximately 10%) including travel to Canada.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or Revit
- Organized with the ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficient with Microsoft-based computer programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Compensation:
- Base salary up to 150k/year dependent on experience.
- 5% annual bonus.
