Job description

1. Develops and implements educational, religious, and spiritual programs for students from Yale College and the University's graduate and professional schools, and for other members of the University community. Plans, coordinates, and organizes community service and community building activities.  2. Works closely with the University Chaplain and all members of the chaplaincy team to create and implement multi-faith programs and other emerging initiatives.  3. Provides guidance and pastoral care to students and student groups on a range of religious, spiritual, and faith-based issues.  Serves as a resource to students and other members of the University community.   4. Coordinates outreach and communication efforts including preparing and supervising the production of promotional materials and/or publications, website design and content, designing ads and fliers, and developing plans and schedules for release of publicity materials. 5. Serves on various committees and attends professional meetings, including but not limited to Yale Religious Ministries. 6. As needed, presides at weddings, memorial services, and other religious services and events.  7. May supervise exempt and non-exempt employees, as well as student employees and/or volunteers.  8. May perform other duties as assigned.



Required Skill/ability 1: Strong commitment to and understanding of the needs and concerns of Muslim students, faculty and staff and the ability to provide pastoral care and leadership support to this diverse community.



Required Skill/ability 2: Excellent writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills as well as crisis management skills with proven ability to work in a multi-religious chaplaincy environment.



Required Skill/ability 3: Outstanding organizational skills with demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.



Required Skill/ability 4: Creativity in imagining new initiatives and/or new ways of pursuing existing goals.



Required Skill/ability 5: Diplomacy, sensitivity, and the ability to respond empathetically and professionally in a range of situations.  Proven ability to exercise discretion and to maintain confidentiality.



Preferred Education: Demonstrated experience working with a diverse, multi-faceted Muslim community.  Demonstrated experience working in a multi-religious situation.



Work Week: Standard (M-F equal number of hours per day)

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Demonstrated experience working with a diverse, multi-faceted Muslim community.  Demonstrated experience working in a multi-religious situation.

Master's Degree in Divinity from a member seminary or divinity school of the Association of Theological Schools or an equivalent advanced degree in theology or religious studies from an accredited college/university and two years of experience in inter-religious work, work with young adults, and/or work in a higher education setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
