Position Summary/Description:

The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a full-time fixed-term faculty members at the rank of Clinical Instructor to work in the new UNC Suicide Prevention Institute. As part of a shared commitment to behavioral health and the well-being of children and families, the UNC Suicide Prevention Institute is partnering with the UNC School of Medicine Psychiatry department with the primary purpose of providing services to adults and children that have recently had a medically serious suicide attempt with close follow up and transitioning back into the community.

Principal duties of the positions will include:

• Provide clinical supervision for earlier career social workers and advise on clinical procedures, workflow, protocols etc. for evidence-based treatments in other clinical environments.
• Provide brief interventions using evidence-based techniques. Areas of specific clinical skills of interest include experiences in trauma therapies, systemic and family models of therapy.
• Provide or facilitate evidence-based short term psychosocial treatments to patients and their parents/guardians (e.g., First Approach Skills Training ( FAST ), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy ( CBT ), Dialectal Behavioral therapy, and Trauma informed treatment modalities), psychoeducation and elements of ABA if working within the unit caring for patients with IDD .
• Implementation of Coping Long Term with Active Suicide Program ( CLASP ) that targets multiple risk factors for suicide using a unique combination of formats (in-person and telephone) and therapeutic strategies (values-goals clarification, problem solving, significant other support).
• Direct engagement with patient utilizing CLASP for patients that have recently had a medically serious suicide attempt with close follow up and transitioning back into the community.
• Will undergo CLASP training and continued supervision and didactics throughout implementation process.

Strong engagement with social work principles and their application to complex problems required for case management and interdisciplinary collaborations and interdisciplinary team meetings.

Education and Experience:

Although not required for the positions, UNC Department of Psychiatry is committed to clinical service and teaching. Experience and interest in teaching or supervision of social work externs, psychology or master's level interns, and medical residents can be an integral part of the positions based on applicants' preference.
