Job description

Maui nonprofit seeks full-time news reporters Description: The Hawaii Journalism Initiative is a new, Maui-based nonprofit that aims to deliver in-depth reporting on critical issues in Maui County. The newsroom is seeking full-time reporters with an understanding of the islands, a passion for empowering communities through stories and a determination to hold leaders accountable. Ideal candidates are versatile journalists capable of covering hard news topics such as Lahaina’s fire recovery and affordable housing as well as human-interest features and profiles of community members. Applicants must: Have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related field, or commensurate experience in media Be proficient in AP style as well as English language and grammar Be proficient in newswriting and copyediting Be proficient in social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, Wordpress) Be familiar with photography and/or videography Be able to produce stories on deadline when needed Live on Maui or be willing to relocate Salary and benefits: Pay ranges from $55,000 to $70,000, based on experience, and comes with medical, dental and vision coverage, paid vacation time and sick leave.
