Job description
Openwork is looking for entry-level or experienced production workers for a Utility Operator for a paper solution company in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Job Summary: The Utility Operator is an entry-level role. The Utility Operator provides entry-level work in production and shipping departments within the plant.
Shift and Pay: 1st and 2nd shift
$16/hr - 1st shift: 6am-4pm. Monday-Thursday with overtime on Fridays (as needed)
- 2nd shift: 2:30pm-12:30am. Monday-Thursday with overtime on Fridays (as needed)

Once hired on you are eligible for a production bonus! There is NO probationary period, so as soon as someone is hired on perm they are eligible to receive this production bonus! This can carry up to $5 on average per hour on their flat rate of pay. It is a collective joint effort so either all qualify or none. It is dependent on scrap, quality, meeting production schedule, etc. There were only 5 times in 2023 out of 52 weeks that the team didn’t qualify for the bonus due to some type of error. Perm employees additionally get paid weekly. Production bonus is also paid out weekly.
Responsibilities:
- Machine Operator Helper – Assist with setup of production order.
- Pulls the product for shipment according to order.
- Packing products in crates or on skids/pallets.
- Verifies and keeps records of outgoing shipments.
- Assists production floor by assembling and staging tooling and raw materials in order to
- maintain production schedule.
- Assembles wood or cardboard or other packaging as required, to include labeling.
- Ability to ensure quantities for BOL matches labels.
- Ability to maintain an organized and safe facility at all times.
- Ability to load/unload trucks as needed.
Skills:
- 1+ years’ machine operating experience: setting up, taking measurements, quality inspection, packaging, and converting is preferred but not required.
- 1 + experience in Shipping/Receiving is preferred but not required.
- MUST be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in logistics or a related field is a plus.
- Proven experience in a shipping/receiving or manufacturing role preferred but not required.
- Excellent organizational skills, leadership, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with computer systems, touchscreens, etc. is highly recommended.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as a team and individually when necessary.
