Job description

Postdoctoral position in Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy

University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

A fully funded postdoctoral position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Alok Joglekar (https://www.joglekarimmunolab.org/at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. The Joglekar lab is in the Department of Immunology, Center for Systems Immunology, and UPMC Hillman Cancer Center Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy program. We are seeking highly motivated PhD or MD/PhD scientists with a keen interest in experimental and/or computational immunology. The crucial role of anti-tumor T cell responses in controlling tumors is well established and can be harnessed for immunotherapies. However, there is still plenty of room for improvement in the overall efficacy of immunotherapies. Our lab is taking systems immunology and synthetic immunology approaches to address this issue (Joglekar et al 2019 and 2020, Nature Methods). We have exciting projects in two areas:

  1. investigating T cell responses to neo-antigens in humans and mice using cutting-edge T cell antigen discovery tools, and
  2. engineering immune strategies to modulate anti-tumor T cell responses using novel chimeric receptors.

These projects will involve single cell RNA sequencing, T cell antigen discovery, functional immune assays, and mouse tumor models. These projects are highly translationally relevant and will lead to preclinical studies in tumor immunology.

We offer a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative research program in tumor immunology and systems immunology. These projects will be performed in close collaboration with the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center (https://hillmanresearch.upmc.edu/research/programs/immunology-immunotherapy/). We also offer a personalized training environment in experimental and computational immunology. A training and career development program tailored to the individual will be designed to comprehensively cover scientific training, conference presentations, grant and fellowship writing, and student mentorship. Experience in immunology or cancer biology is preferred. Visa sponsorship, if applicable, is available.

Pitt consistently ranks highly (top 10) nationally in NIH funding and has several excellent departments and centers to study tumor immunology. UPMC Hillman Cancer center is at the forefront of basic, translational, and clinical research in the quest of curing cancer. Together, we provide a world class environment for training and career development.
