- United Health System is seeking a highly qualified Registered Respiratory Therapist to join our dynamic team in Sweetwater, TX. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring the health and well-being of employees within various Respiratory settings. Responsibilities:
Responsibilities of a Respiratory Therapist:
- Patient Assessment: Perform comprehensive assessments of patients with respiratory disorders, including physical assessments, review of medical history, and evaluation of diagnostic test results.
- Treatment Planning: Develop individualized treatment plans based on patients' assessment findings, medical diagnoses, and physician orders. Determine appropriate respiratory therapies and interventions to achieve therapeutic goals.
- Respiratory Therapies: Administer a wide range of respiratory therapies and interventions, including oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, bronchodilator therapy, airway clearance techniques, and mechanical ventilation support.
- Ventilator Management: Manage mechanical ventilators for patients requiring respiratory support. Monitor ventilator settings, assess patient-ventilator synchrony, and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions as needed.
- Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about respiratory conditions, treatment options, medication administration techniques, and self-management strategies. Provide instructions on inhaler use, pulmonary rehabilitation exercises, and smoking cessation support.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all respiratory care interventions, patient assessments, treatment plans, and outcomes in patients' medical records. Ensure documentation complies with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with physicians, nurses, respiratory therapy colleagues, and other members of the healthcare team to coordinate patient care and promote interdisciplinary communication. Participate in patient care rounds, case conferences, and care planning meetings.
- Emergency Response: Respond to medical emergencies, including respiratory distress, airway obstruction, and cardiopulmonary arrest. Provide immediate interventions, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and advanced airway management, as necessary.
- Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the delivery of respiratory care services and improving patient outcomes. Collect data, analyze trends, and implement evidence-based practices to optimize respiratory care delivery.
- Professional Development: Maintain professional competency by participating in continuing education activities, training programs, and professional certifications. Stay informed about advances in respiratory care technology, treatment modalities, and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Education: Graduation from an accredited respiratory therapy program leading to an associate or bachelor's degree in respiratory care.
- Licensure: Current licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) or equivalent credentialing body.
- Certification: Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Additional certifications, such as Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist (NPS) or Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS), may be preferred.
