Job description
Organization Overview: The Kansas City Autism Training Center is committed to helping people on the autism spectrum fulfill their potential through ethical, evidence-based treatment, education, and training. The Kansas City Autism Training Center (KcATC) is a Center that specializes in the treatment of autism spectrum disorders. KcATC utilizes applications of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to optimize the learning environment for children with autism spectrum disorders.
Opportunity: The Kansas City Autism Training Center welcomes applications for the Development Director position. This position is responsible for developing and leading the implementation of the organization’s fundraising strategy, raising over $1,000,000 each year from corporate, individual, foundation, and special event sources. Reporting to the Executive Director, key job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Fundraising Planning & Strategy
- Work closely with the Executive Director to establish, maintain, and follow through on development goals that align with the organization’s current needs and future growth.
Individual Giving
- Develop and implement individual donor stewardship strategies to maintain relationships with event attendees and grow them into regular supporters, from in-person meetings to thank you notes and regular communication updates.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with prospective new donors, including developing outreach strategies, participating in donor meetings, and coordinating all follow-ups.
Corporate & Foundation Funding
- Maintain current corporate and foundation funders through a robust donor stewardship program.
- Identify prospective new funding sources and lead the process to cultivate relationships with these prospects, including managing the full lifecycle of donor relationships from identification to solicitation to stewardship.
- Work with grant writing consultants to submit grant proposals and reports by deadlines; oversee the Development Coordinator’s completion of grant reports and proposals, as needed.
- Attend networking events in the Kansas City community with the goal of raising awareness for the organization and cultivating new donor relationships.
Events
- Set goals, strategy, and workflow for fundraising events. Current fundraising events include a golf tournament, a pickleball event, a sporting clays event, and a Gala.
- Oversee the Development Coordinator’s efforts related to event logistics, ensuring events are on track to meet all goals and deliver a superior guest experience.
- In partnership with the Executive Director, identify and solicit corporate, individual, and foundation gifts to support all events.
- Explore opportunities to develop new fundraising events and promotions that raise awareness for the organization and raise additional revenue.
Fundraising Systems
- Collaborate with the Development Coordinator to ensure all fundraising systems are as efficient as possible and donors are receiving a top-notch donor experience.
Social Media/Marketing
- Help set strategy to grow the organization's digital presence related to social media, traditional media, and website; provide oversight to the Development Coordinator as they implement these strategies and activities.
Administrative
- In partnership with the Executive Director, help coach and manage the Development Coordinator.
- Work closely with the Executive Director to develop materials for Board meetings.
- Assist in budget preparations, as well as track expenses related to travel, fundraising events, and/or marketing efforts.
- Assist in the development of the annual report.
Qualifications/Experience/Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Communications, or related field.
- At least 5-7 years of fundraising experience, with experience/exposure to a variety of fundraising strategies.
- Experience identifying, soliciting, and growing relationships with donors required; corporate and individual experience strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of planning and executing successful fundraising events.
- Strong attention to detail with accurate data entry and word processing skills. Salesforce experience preferred.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Passion for the mission of the KC Autism Training Center.
Compensation and Benefits
- Full-time, 40 hours per week

- Salary Range: $60,000-$75,000
- Hybrid work environment available, after initial 90-day onboarding period
- Must reside in the Kansas City area
