Job description
NUVIA UK's Technical Services department are recruiting for an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer. This is an embedded opportunity, supporting one of our leading clients within the nuclear industry. We are able to recruit personnel on either a contract or permanent basis.
Location wise, you will be working from the client's office at Birchwood Park in Warrington. This is a hybrid role, 3 days in the office as standard.
Please note the ability to obtain BPSS level security clearance is essential, as a minimum.
Project Description:
The Lab L project is required to retrieve and export a significant number of existing Special Nuclear Material packages that have been inspected and deemed requiring overpacking layers before exporting to another facility store. The multi-disciplined project will design the plant and equipment that:
- Retrieves the package (using modified current plant assets where practicable)
Manages the risk of loss of nuclear containment whilst handling and repackaging the SNM packages. - Safely adds additional package layers (with minimal handling) suitable for export to the existing storage facility.
- Provides a layout that supports retrievals and export within Lab L and interfacing plant and equipment.
The multidiscipline team will be required to produce the strip out methodologies and resultant plant layout for the reconfiguration of Lab L required to deliver the project mission.
Principal Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Experience of working within a highly regulated industry, preferably within the nuclear industry.
- Knowledge & experience in nuclear containment systems and mechanical plant & equipment design.
- Responsible for the timely delivery of design packages, which will include close liaison with the Area Engineering Manager/Technical Manager, other engineering disciplines, the role will have the following expectations.
- Lead functional input to own projects, including where relevant leading the input of other (possibly multidisciplinary) engineers, to ensure engineering delivery meets scope, time, cost and quality.
- Plan and prioritise own work and the mechanical team so that parallel activities are all completed in a timely manner.
- Carry out engineering calculations and checking calculations where required and check the mechanical deliverables ensuring the team deliver quality outputs to schedule.
- Generate and check engineering estimates and execution strategies.
- Manage suppliers to ensure cost effective, timely delivery.
- Provide functional support and guidance to the mechanical team.
- Keep abreast of current technology so that technical input to projects takes account of new developments.
- Experience of Alpha plant design and the safe decommissioning of redundant (potentially alpha contaminated) plant.
- Liaison with key stakeholders and other design disciplines
- Competent report writing skills: clearly and concisely reporting findings.
- Comfortable working under time and cost.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
- Understanding of 2D and 3D Autodesk CAD Products.
- Experience of working within a highly regulated industry, preferably within the nuclear industry.
- Knowledge & experience in nuclear containment systems and mechanical plant & equipment design.
