Intern - Inpatient/Orthopaedics Unit

Job description

Discharge inpatients, in accordance with hospital policy. Round on patients each shift, greeting new patients and families. Visit and/or read with patients with no family present. Offer drinks and fill ice bags and water pitchers after verifying with nurse. Monitor and restock gloves, masks, and isolation gowns as necessary. Check rooms for emergency and safety equipment, set up rooms for admission, and zero bed. Set up meal trays as necessary. Keep bedside tables and counters free of clutter. Sanitize touch points of wheelchairs and carts at end of the day using hospital approved disinfectant and gloves.

 

Performs clerical and receptionist duties. Serves as the communication liaison for patients/family, nursing staff, physicians, and other hospital departments. Assist with maintenance of department inventory. May have access to non-controlled medication storage areas on the patient care units if and only when their job responsibilities require that access, such as transferring non-controlled substance medications from one storage location site to another or when helping other licensed healthcare professionals retrieve non-controlled substance medications.

This internship position is a time-limited, temporary position with a start date of June 3rd, 2024. The total number of hours that an intern can work during this timeframe is 250 hours.

 


Interns hired for the summer cohort will be enrolled in Campus Greensboro’s Summer Fellows Program . This is an in person, professional development training program sponsored by Cone Health. Some hours of program participation will be paid.

EDUCATION:

Current Pre-Nursing/Pre-LPN or Nursing/LPN students

 

EXPERIENCE:

Relative experience/basic medical terminology/computer literacy required.

 

Ability to multi-task and prioritize

Demonstrates consistent reliability and punctuality regarding attendance.

Protects all confidential information and obeys all HIPAA regulations. Adheres to all organizational and departmental policies and procedures, including dress code.
