Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The University of Maryland School of Music invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Trombone. We seek highly qualified trombonists with successful experience working in diverse musical, social, and cultural contexts. The successful candidate will recruit and teach a diverse studio of undergraduate and graduate trombone students, lead weekly studio classes, advise graduate students, and serve on dissertation committees.

Other teaching assignments may include teaching repertoire and pedagogy courses, coaching and coordinating chamber ensembles, teaching commercial and or jazz performance, teaching euphonium, teaching instrumental methods in brass for Music Education majors, and other courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.

The successful candidate will maintain an active and visible professional profile; build professional relationships with local, regional, and national artistic institutions; cultivate an inclusive, welcoming, and healthy learning environment for students, faculty, and staff; and take part in a culture of service to the School of Music, the College of Arts and Humanities, and the University.

Education:
A doctoral degree in Music or equivalent professional experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Evidence of excellence in performance, teaching, advising, and recruitment.

Demonstrated excellence in teaching of tenor and bass trombone.

Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity, and expertise in trombone performance and pedagogy in a variety of styles and performance settings.
