This role serves as an expert or lead development professional in a specialized area such as major/principal gifts, gift planning or corporate/foundation relations, or a specific area that includes, or potentially includes, donors capable of making very significant contributions to a location. Maintains a portfolio of donor prospects that include the most influential, complex or highest rated donors. May have authority to make commitments and precedent-setting decisions regarding program design, development, and procedures. May oversee the work of professional and support staff. Position is expected to raise gift dollar amounts as established at each fundraiser specialization.  

This is a hybrid role with the opportunity to work remotely 2 days per week, with the expectation to travel locally and statewide, as needed.

Salary: The anticipated salary for this role is $107,000 to $125,000 depending on experience.

About the Role:  

Under the leadership of the Assistant Dean for Development and in close collaboration with the Dean of the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (CNAS), the Senior Director of Development ( SDoD ) will develop and execute long- and short-term strategies to grow the college's philanthropic pipeline and secure annual and major gifts that will benefit endowments, research programs, and student success. The SDoD will identify and manage approximately 150 individual donors and will travel statewide and nationally for qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship purposes. The SDoD will arrange appropriate opportunities for key faculty and academic leadership to meet with prospective donors and will work collaboratively with other University Advancement colleagues to achieve fundraising goals. The College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences' 13 departments comprise the college's three divisions led by Divisional Deans: Agriculture, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences. This unique structure has resulted in the need for dedicated philanthropic engagement from an incumbent who will be instrumental in planning and executing strategies in collaboration with the CNAS Development team. Please note: this is a three-year, renewable contract position that includes the same employee benefits afforded career employees.  

Breakdown of the role:  

• 25%- Manages a portfolio of donor prospects that include the most influential, complex or highest capacity-rated donors. May maintain and manage portfolio(s) of senior campus leadership including the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor.  
• 15%- Ensures that predetermined fundraising goals are met and designs and implements highly specialized program activities to achieve these goals.  
• 10%- Qualify major gift prospects and solicit gifts directly.  
• 10%- Develops, creates, writes, implements, and/or evaluates individualized marketing plans and/or strategies for cultivation and solicitation of major gifts, gift planning or corporate/foundation prospects (strategies typically require a high degree of innovation) 
• 10%- Analyzes needs and creates strategic and long-range plans for fundraising and other advancement programs and may have the authority to make commitments and precedent-setting decisions regarding program design, development, and procedures.  
• 5%- Presents formal fundraising proposals to major donors and prospects or prepares senior management to present proposals  
• 5%- Serves as resource for assigned area of expertise, interacting with prospects, donors, staff and outside professionals to provide information, advice and counsel regarding assigned specialized program(s). May oversee the work of professional and support staff.  
• 5%- Creates, establishes and evaluates methods for building/ maintaining prospect and volunteer constituencies and identifies , recruits, and directs the activities of high-level volunteers.  
• 5%- Writes complex proposals for solicitation of high value individuals, corporate, and/or foundation prospects.  
• 5%- Incumbent will build, grow and manage an individual portfolio of prospective donors capable of giving at the major gift level of $50,000 or more to UCR. Responsible for having a comprehensive understanding of university priorities, and regularly meeting with prospective donors and university supporters (with a focus on face-to-face visits ) and working collaboratively with University Advancement colleagues and academic partners to achieve fundraising goals. Responsible for preparing briefing materials and gift proposals, attending events, and staffing and/or supervising projects as assigned. Using high professionalism, the Sr. Director of Development will work closely with institutional leadership such as college deans, Directors of Developments, Research Affairs and other campus and University Advancement departments.  
• 5%- May attend functions, meetings and serve on internal/external committees as a representative of the location.  

Required Qualifications:  

• Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training  
• 8 - 13 years of related experience  

Preferred Qualifications:  

• A mi nimum of five years demonstrated fundraising or similar leadership experience in a higher education institution.
