Job description
Essential Responsibilities and Tasks
- Prepares consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departments.
- Maintains and balances an automated consolidation system by inputting data, scheduling required jobs, verifying data.
- Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports, verifying information.
- Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files, reconciling general ledger and banking accounts for multiple accounts and banks.
- Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
- Checking and auditing timekeeping records for compliance with established standards, maintaining time and attendance records, entering new hires into the payroll system, posting changes in pay and tax status, and miscellaneous changes.
- Processes bi-weekly and bi-monthly payroll using Payroll Service . Including garnishments and other wage reporting data.
- Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Maintain records and prepare reports with direction and communication from the VP of Finance.
- Work in cooperation with all departments to ensure consistent service to all.
- Demonstrate and promote a climate of courtesy, professionalism and positive attitude to coworkers, the volunteers served by this council, and others with whom her/his job put her/him in contact.
- Model and support best practices in accounting.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
- Perform special assignments and other duties as assigned.
Education | Work Experience | Skill Requirements
Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting
Minimum Experience required:
- Minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience in Accounting and Payroll
Skills Required:
- Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Office Systems (Outlook, Word & Excel, at a minimum) and precise data entry.
- Knowledge of accounting and payroll software
- General math skills - ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to interpret financial reports and graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages.
- Must have excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented. Ability to handle several projects simultaneously, prioritize work and handle last minute demands appropriately.
- Experience in a non-profit setting (preferred)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent customer service abilities.
- Ability to follow instructions, complete tasks in a timely manner and work independently.
- Effective communication skills including conveying individual needs.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
