A DAY IN THE LIFE

The Specialist applies fundamental concepts, processes, practices, and procedures on technical assignments. Performs work that requires practical experience and training. Work is performed under supervision to include:

• Monitor and control electronic computer and peripheral electronic data processing equipment to process business, scientific, engineering, and other data according to operating instructions.
• Monitor and respond to operating and error messages. May enter commands at a computer terminal and set controls on computer and peripheral devices.
• Console operations to include but not limited to system initialization procedures
• Respond to help desk inquiries and provide technical assistance
• Documentation services (anomalous reporting, and document library management)
• Account management (establish user accounts, reset passwords)
• Conduct technology surveys
• Database administration for configuration and tracking (Oracle, Remedy, etc.)
• Assist users with understanding software and hardware capabilities
• System backups (daily, weekly, monthly)
• Continuous performance monitoring to ensure operational capability
• Assist in maintaining standard operating procedures

You will spend much of your time working independently. Your interpersonal skills come in handy as you will clean and maintain tools, test equipment, and motor vehicles. Complete logbooks, daily timesheets, expense vouchers, and verbal and written status reports. Attend and complete developmental and refresher training to improve or maintain technical skills.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• A HS diploma with a minimum of 4 years related experience or AS degree with 2+ years' experience or BA degree is required.
• Must possess an active secret security clearance. Must be able and willing to be submitted for an TS/TS SCI Poly security clearance.
• Some of computer systems operations
• Apply fundamental concept processes, practices, and procedures on technical assignment
• Perform work that requires practical experience and training
• Knowledge of Unix, Windows 2000, Linux
• Understand the concept of windows server setup and configuration, UNIX operating systems, and Remedy help desk software
