Position Description:
Dr Abdisalan Noor leads a program of work to strengthen capacity and the enabling strategic, policy and leadership environment for public health analytics in health systems in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), with a focus on Africa. The program of work aims to develop a networked architecture for sustainable capacity development in public health analytics. The project will engage national public health institutes, national malaria programmes, the World Health Organization, the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention and other partners.
The successful applicant will lead work in selected countries in sub-Saharan Africa on:
· Landscape analysis of investments in public health analytics for health policy and planning.
· Analysis of the process linkages in the development of the national health sector planning and disease specific strategic planning.
· Documenting the analysis approaches, products and partnerships that inform national health sector and disease specific planning processes.
· Implementing a public health analytics needs assessment in select disease/public health programmes
· Support the development of a strategy for a new architecture to strengthen public health analytics in Africa.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will have regular (at least monthly) research and progress assessment meetings with their Harvard faculty mentor for the full one year of the fellowship. The Fellow will also interact with collaborating mentors at the HSPH Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases and Department of Global Health & Population. The Fellow will collaborate with the World Health Organization partners in Geneva and the African Regional Office, the African Centre for Disease Control and Prevention as well several other institutions supporting public health analytics in Africa. The Fellow will also work collaboratively with other group members on other projects related to public health analytics in LMICs.
The successful candidate will spend about 30% on travel in selected countries to implement this project.
Basic Qualifications:
The Fellowship Program is open to individuals who have received their PhD in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Economics, Health Policy or equivalent.
Additional Qualifications:
Candidates should demonstrate a track record of consistent publication, have strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills, and should be able to work both independently and as part of a team. French language proficiency is a plus as several West and Central African countries use French for official business.
