Job description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works under supervision from the Development Manager;
- Is capable of performing most routine operations with minimal supervision and supervising other Development Chemists as appropriate;
- Develops and maintains a high level of expertise in all aspects of Peptide manufacturing, including solid- and solution-phase synthesis, intermediate processing, and purification;
- Develops synthetic procedures and performs synthetic steps using the developed procedures;
- Performs experiments to determine requisite process parameters to develop intermediate processing procedures and performs intermediate chemical processing steps using the developed procedures;
- With minimal supervision, develops procedures needed for product purification, determines purification process parameters and purifies crude peptide products by preparative chromatography techniques, including HPLC and Ion Exchange Chromatography;
- Develops analytical methods and performs analyses of in-process samples/chromatographic fractions by analytical HPLC/UPLC/SEC and reports results to Development Manager;
- Makes basic “Go – No Go” processing decisions;
- Reports any significant problems or issues regarding equipment used in processing to Development Manager. May perform basic and/or general machine/equipment troubleshooting;
- Is responsible for maintaining high safety, housekeeping and cleanliness standards;
- Maintains Development documentation and process records under the GDP standards;
- Performs analysis of process data and compiles Process Development update presentations and Process Development Summary reports;
- Under minimal and necessary supervision and direction, performs experiments to establish process parameters and uses the results to generate process BPRs (Batch Production Records);
- Provides Development support to Production as assigned by the Development Manager;
- Presents Process Development update presentations to clients with the aid and direction from Development Manager;
- Communicates Process Development project status to Project Management to ensure project progress tracking;
- Engages with the Global Development team to communicate newly discovered technical challenges and possible solutions to the existing issues;
- Takes on additional tasks and duties from both the local site and the Global Development teams;
- Performs any and all additional duties as required for this position.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree in Chemistry with 5+ years of related experience.
- Educational background and experience in Organic Synthesis is required, experience with peptide chemistry is desirable.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite of applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)
- Ability to work as part of a team and also independently with minimal to no supervision
- Ability to rapidly change focus during times of shifting or changing priorities
- Impeccable technical writing skills with extreme attention to detail, specifically the lexicology and grammatology of written English text as applied to technical writing
- Excellent organizational, multitasking, and communication skills
Salary: $90K-$120K annually
