UPMC is looking for a Sterilizer Repair Technician to support our Altoona location.
This position works Monday- Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm with some rotating weekends.
Travel required to Somerset, Bedford and Western Maryland after initial training period.
Purpose:
The Sterilizer Repair Technician (SRT) performs repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance on high level infection prevention equipment used throughout the UPMC Health System and its affiliates as well as physician offices, other institutions and BioTronics Inc clients. Under minimal supervision relies on experience and prudent judgment to plan and accomplish assigned tasks and goals.
Responsibilities:
- Understand, operate and provide training on all standard and or specialty equipment.
- Travel between UPMC sites, hospital affiliates, and institutions for services with BioTronics Inc is required as needed.Use of personal vehicle may be required.
- Participate in the development of Clinical Engineering Generalist I and II.
- Priority Class ‘High’ Equipment includes but is not limited to: ESU, ventricular assist devices, nursery incubators, pacemakers, thermocyclers, spectrophotometer, portable bypass system, injectors, muse system, defibrillator, ultrasound (diagnostic), x-ray imagers, x-ray portables, x-ray processors, x-ray tables, x-ray TV systems, Cranes-Buckys, scope sterilizers, washer decontaminators, cart washers, orthopedic specialty instruments, servers and gateways. Priority Class ‘Specialty’ Equipment includes but is not limited to: Nuclear camera, CT scanners, cath lab systems, dialysis, anesthesia, ventilators, sterilizers (steam and ETO), gas plasma sterilizers, tunnel washer, lasers, MRI, linear accelerator, perfusion equipment, surgical endoscope repair, system installations and relocations, diagnostic software support, clinical application and mapping systems.
- Participates in on-call rotation as indicated by director.
- Consult directly with surgeons, surgical specialty nurses as well as ancillary staff in all surgical based departments.
- Provide consultation to administration, nursing, and medical staff regarding operational, training, application and technological advancements of infection prevention and sterilization equipment.
- Priority Class ‘Low’ Equipment includes but is not limited to: Lab equipment, physical therapy equipment, saws, dental equipment, compressors, and general patient care equipment, arthroscopy instruments, standard scissors, forceps, retractors, elevators, ortho curettes, osteotomes, chisels, bone cutters, printer and PC peripherals. Priority Class `Medium’ Equipment includes but is not limited to: Patient monitoring systems, video equipment, warmers (blood and fluid), scope washers, lab equipment (analyzers), oximeters, infusion devices, diagnostic test equipment (pulmonary), NIBP units, humidifiers, oxygen equipment (respiratory), nerve/muscle stimulator, Doppler, computer work stations, pumps, tourniquets, SCD, hypothermia, EKG machines, ultrasound (PT), OR tables, OR lights and sonics, rongeurs, needle holders, general imaging/radiology equipment.
- Understand and follow all repair manuals and procedures, understands electrical and electronics schematics, steam and piping diagrams and standards related to sterilization and washing / decontamination equipment.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance, inspections and repairs on infection prevention, sterilization, surgical positioning, lighting and ancillary equipment to include Low, Medium, High and Specialty groups.
- Work with vendors, architects, contractors building trades (plumbing and electrical) and administration on installation and de-installation of equipment.
- Maintain records of all work activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (ITS) and Kronos system.
- Understand, implement and provide training on specific regulatory requirements i.e., TJC, CLEA etc.
