Northeast Arkansas Town Courier seeks talented journalist to serve as assistant editor/sports writer We offer full benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401K, free life insurance, flexible work schedules, etc. Salary based on experience. The Northeast Arkansas Town Courier seeks an assistant editor/sports writer who will help lead our newsroom, write news and sports stories, and assist with pagination duties of our print products while also serving as a leader of our newsroom. Based in Blytheville, Arkansas, the individual hired will need to reside within 30 miles of the newspaper’s office. Our assistant editor will write feature stories, cover meetings and games, write police and crime stories and take photographs. We have new computers and the most recent Adobe software for page design. This position’s management responsibilities include: helping reporters with story ideas, editing stories, making sure all deadlines are met, and having a voice in daily assignments and direction of the newsroom. We also are looking for someone to take the lead with our digital products, including social media. We publish two print editions on Wednesday and Saturday mornings along with a popular Sports Connection section in Wednesday’s paper when school is in session. The assistant editor will be available to help with a sister weekly paper, The Osceola Times. The position is perfect for someone looking to grow and eventually become an editor or sports editor. The ideal candidate will have: *1-3 years of journalism experience *Ability to create on-deadline textual and visual content for print and digital products *The ability to work effectively in a team *A commitment to listening to and engaging audiences The Northeast Arkansas Town Courier is part of a growing community. Blytheville is located along the Mississippi River, nestled in the heart of the Delta. Rich in history, we are the home of a state-of-the-art Hospital System and the Arkansas Northeastern College. From cotton to steel, Mississippi County has recently become the largest steel producing county in the country. We are also conveniently located one hour from Memphis, Tennessee and one hour from Jonesboro, Arkansas, which are both favorite spots for locals to visit.
