Job description

Description Summary 

• The primary responsibility of this position is to meet or exceed the company safety, quality, and cost objectives. 

• Responsible for the coordination and implementation of all safety programs, behavioral-based safety activities, OSHA, and EPA regulatory programs. 

• Responsible for leading the safety, skill development, and succession planning of the Board Department. 

• Responsible for the operation of gypsum wallboard manufacturing line. Ensure all products comply with UL/ASTM standards and USG bulletins for product quality and meet or exceed customer expectations in the marketplace. 

• Must identify and lead process improvements through Lean/Six Sigma and CIC initiatives, acting as the process owner, and drive operational improvements utilizing the Reliability Performance Model for all equipment to achieve recovery and delay targets. Responsible for identifying and executing capital improvements for the board department. 

• Encourage the use of 5S and LSS tools to continuously improve the operation of the board department. 

• Lead Continuous Improvement initiatives within the board department. 

• Lead plans around housekeeping and Project Home with the board department while setting high expectations for long-term improvement and safety. 

Qualifications & Requirements 

• Bachelor's Degree preferred and prior experience as a department manager is required.

• Must demonstrate strong leadership, communication (verbal and written), decision making and employee relations skills within a diverse workforce environment. Must have the ability to relate to others in all levels of the organization and be able to work collaboratively to achieve common goals. 

• Establish operational excellence with a high level of organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize tasks and implement Best-In-Class work practices.

• Knowledgeable with safety compliance programs with a strong emphasis on safety, product quality and housekeeping. 

• Effective at coaching employees for optimal performance. 

• Must have demonstrated abilities to operate within a planned budget and manage cost within established goals. 

• Well-developed planning and prioritizing capability required to adapt to changing market conditions. 

• Ability to operate within a planned budget and hold costs within established goals. 

• Strong interpersonal skills to enable rapport-building with employees. 

• Proven computer skills including Excel, Word and Outlook

Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
