OSU has a land grant mission and an institution-wide commitment to diversity, multiculturalism, and community. We actively engage in recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce and a student body that includes members of historically underrepresented groups. We strive to build and sustain a welcoming and supportive campus environment. OSU provides leadership opportunities for people interested in promoting and enhancing diversity, nurturing creativity, and building community. All employees are responsible for helping to maintain and enhance OSU’s collaborative and inclusive community that strives for equity and equal opportunity.
The College of Science promotes an inclusive and collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment to inspire discovery and foster innovation. Science faculty and students pursue both fundamental and applied research in over 100 labs across campus. We bring unique talent and capabilities to four key areas of interdisciplinary research with global distinction: Marine Science, Biomedical Science, Materials Science and Data Science. These areas represent our global impact in research vital to human and animal life health, the sustainability of our planet, and a strong economy with start-ups, innovative market solutions, and scientific discoveries that solve our most pressing problems in these areas. The College includes seven academic departments and key Research Centers and Facilities that span research across a variety of disciplines.
The Research Development Unit (RDU) within the College of Science (COS) is focused on accelerating research growth by leveraging college resources to encourage faculty to address grand societal research challenges and target funding opportunities to increase the size and number of competitive research grants in alignment with the Oregon State University’s strategic plan, “ Prosperity Shared Widely ”, the college’s diversity action plan, Embedding Equity, Access and Inclusion , and the College of Science’s Strategic Plan. The RDU designs and implements services, using an equity, access and inclusion (EAI) lens to help faculty, staff and student investigators succeed in obtaining and maintaining intramural funding within Oregon State University (OSU), and extramural funding from federal agencies and foundation grants.
The RDU is seeking two Proposal Coordinators who will report to the Director of Research Development and contribute to OSU’s and the COS’s strategic plan to grow our research and innovation enterprise. These positions serve as a primary point of contact and technical resource in the COS for researchers seeking to develop and submit proposals for external funding opportunities. The positions are based on the Corvallis campus with a hybrid or remote work option available.
The Proposal Coordinators are members of the RDU working on complex projects, collaborating with faculty, staff, and researchers across the college and university. These coordinators work with the Director to lead and manage the proposal support unit which includes finding funding opportunities, building teams, and assisting researchers with proposals from inception to submission. Thus, they are expected to learn and be aware of COS research programs and to contribute to COS’s capacity to be competitive in obtaining external grants. The coordinators maintain a deep knowledge of university and granting agency requirements and proposal and award processes and issues. The coordinators confer with grant and contract administrators and external funding agencies to clarify rules and guidelines and explain to researchers as needed.
