BAE Systems has an opening for a Cyber Security Engineering Intern for a full-time role during summer 2024. In this position, you will be supporting the Combat Mission Systems (CMS) Business at our Sterling Heights, MI facility. This position will be mainly onsite, relocation will not be offered, and housing is not provided.
Cybersecurity Interns will support cybersecurity systems or software development for multiple projects selected to demonstrate technical concepts and explore potential solutions for our customers. You will have the opportunity to create and develop advanced technology capabilities in the areas of cyber and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and gain valuable business experience and exposure to defense work. You will develop technical skills and expand industry knowledge across a broad range of projects and tasks. Interns will be in work teams and will be active in task planning and execution, staff meetings, customer meetings (where appropriate), and technical discussions.
As a Cybersecurity Intern, you will: - Work in multi-disciplinary team environment performing cybersecurity engineering tasks on embedded systems for military vehicle development programs.
- Analyze cyber security requirements and controls, support development of risk mitigation plans for vulnerabilities, and support cybersecurity certification test and evaluation efforts for vehicle and cross-domain systems.
- Research and investigate the latest cybersecurity tools such as prevention, penetration/hacking, modeling, and scanning tools.
- Perform network scans with existing network scanning tools
- Receive mentorship from senior cybersecurity engineers
- Gain experience in one or more areas including: designing and Building Models, Cybersecurity Engineering, Software Unit Testing, Systems Level Testing, Assisting in Meeting Program Schedules, Assisting With Configuration Management, Updating / Auditing Software & Systems Administration & Processes
Required Education, Experience, & Skills - Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or other closely related fields of study, with cyber security coursework
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
- System or network-level thinking skills (i.e. ability to work at detailed level but understand the larger system implications)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to read and understand vehicle electronic architecture diagrams
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills - Completed at least 90 total credits, or Junior Year, of undergraduate coursework.
- Linux Operating System (OS) and scripting (RHEL and Kali).
- Experience working with embedded systems
- Experience with traditional A&A tools: Nessus, Nmap, HBSS, Xacta.
- Familiarity with Department of Defense (DoD) / Risk Management Framework (RMF) processes
- Experience with Ethernet networks, TCP/IP, Switch and Router configuration
- Experience with automotive communications protocols such as CANBus
- CompTIA A+ or Network+ Certifications
- Experience in Modeling and Simulation (M&S)
- Completion of introductory programming or engineering classes
- Python/Java/C++ or other object oriented program design and development
Pay Information Full-Time Salary Range: $47216 - $63752
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
Temporary employees generally are not eligible for BAE Systems benefits, but can elect to participate in the 401(k) savings plan. Temporary employees working 20+ hours per week are eligible for medical benefits, the employee assistance program, and business travel accident insurance.
