Position Summary/Description:

The UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking an independent and detail-oriented contributor to serve as a full-time Digital Research Specialist to Dr. Allison Lazard, Hussman School of Journalism and Media Associate Professor and expert in health communication to improve cancer prevention and cancer support.

Increasing use of social media, online tools, and mobile devices has created a digital landscape with unprecedented opportunities to learn from and respond to vulnerable populations. Dr. Lazard is leading teams to leverage evidence-based strategies to design effective health communication to understand which message and interactive design elements are most effective in inducing behavior change to improve health outcomes.

This position will support health communication research projects for an array of cancer support, cancer prevention, and health behavior topics (e.g., addressing cancer misinformation, improving psycho-social support for adolescents and young adults with cancer, and reducing risk behaviors among vulnerable populations).

The Digital Research Specialist will work on a wide range of projects and media, using various software programs to iteratively develop innovative designs that meet project goals. This work requires contributing to the creation of all study materials (e.g., stimuli, recruitment messages), as well as dissemination of the team's research for scientific communities, policy and funding stakeholders, and communities. This includes but is not limited to the creation of visual designs (e.g., health messages, social media posts); copywriting; video and photo editing; maintaining internal databases for designs, photography, video; and supporting development of simulated social media research platforms and other data collection tools. The Digital Research Specialist will contribute to currently funded health communication research projects by supporting communication research through project planning, participant recruitment, data collection, contributing to the interpretation of findings, and dissemination with graphics and public-facing reports. The Digital Research Specialist will interface with multidisciplinary teams, including undergraduate and graduate students; communication, public health, psychology, oncology, and other researchers; and administrative staff across multiple schools at UNC and elsewhere.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
