Job description
Job Overview:
Marathon Oil is seeking a Controls & Automation Engineer to lead, support and provide technical oversight with automation project development activities within the onshore unconventional oil & gas assets. The successful candidate will perform project management, design and programming for brownfield and greenfield projects and provide guidance and oversight regarding use of engineering best practices and standards. This position is also involved in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies and processes as the Company pursues its technology development roadmap .
Responsibilities:
- Champion HES principles and values; demonstrate a commitment to following all applicable safety procedures and practices
- Provide subject matter expert input, author, and review/approve a variety of technical documentation including loop diagrams, control panel layouts, and other electrical drawings, cause & effect matrix, control narratives, test procedures, commissioning documentation, user manuals, troubleshooting guides, technical presentations, and training materials
- Perform project management activities, including planning, budgeting, and organizing system implementation related activities typical of an automation project
- Evaluate, specify, procure, and design the appropriate controls and instrumentation to meet the needs of the project
- Create programming for the controls system and HMI according to company standards
- Attend Factory Acceptance Tests, Site Acceptance Tests and participate in commissioning and startup activities
- Provide training to operators and technicians as needed for new / modified controls systems
- Manage interface with vendors and engineering contractors when the work is outsourced to third party integrators/contractors
- Remain current in technology being developed in the field of automation and recommend new fit for purpose technologies for use at Marathon Oil.
Requirements:
- Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university. Preferably a degree in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering
- 10+ years of experience with designing and installing controls and instrumentation
- 10+ years of programming experience with RTU, PLC, or DCS systems.
- Preferably Emerson ROC800 RTU, Emerson FB3000 RTU, Allen Bradley PLC
- Preferably with IEC-61131 programming languages
- Knowledge of networking topologies, TCP/IP, network switches, firewalls, routers
- Must have experience working with a wide range of instruments, gas & liquids meters, analyzers, actuators, etc.
- Must have experience with Process Hazard Analysis and Layers of Protection Analysis
- Solid project management and planning skills, and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
- Excellent communication, facilitation, organizational skills, and attention to detail
- Foster an atmosphere of inclusion and respect with coworkers
- Oil & Gas Industry experience
