Job Summary:
Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking a dynamic and organized Project and
Construction Manager to join our team. As a vital member of our Maintenance
Department, you will play a crucial role in managing and coordinating various
construction projects throughout our school district. In this position, you will have the

Essential Job Functions: - Coordinate and manage construction projects for Spotsylvania County Public
- Schools, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and in
- accordance with quality standards.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to
- develop project plans and specifications.
- Oversee the bidding process for construction projects, including reviewing
- proposals, negotiating contracts, and selecting qualified contractors.
- Monitoring and inspecting construction sites to ensure compliance with safety
- regulations, building codes, and project requirements.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including progress reports, change
- orders, and payment requests.
- Facilitate effective communication and coordination among project team
- members, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Manage project budgets, tracking expenses, conducting cost analyses, and
- recommending cost-saving measures.
- Identify and resolve any issues or conflicts that may arise during the construction
- process, taking appropriate action to keep projects on schedule and minimize
- disruptions.
- Performs other duties assigned by supervisor
- The Project and Construction Manager Must Demonstrate Knowledge of:
- Relevant codes, regulations, and standards in order to ensure compliance and
- adherence to safety guidelines throughout all construction projects.
- Budget development and management of funds.
- Latest technology in the related field.
- The Project and Construction Manager Must Demonstrate the Ability to:
- Plan, organize and oversee multiple construction projects simultaneously as a
- project manager
- Effectively communicate with various stakeholders, such as contractors,
- architects, engineers, and school personnel, to ensure successful coordination of
- construction activities
- Identify and resolve issues that may arise during the construction process
- Review construction plans, specifications, and documents to verify accuracy and
- completeness.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to each construction
- project.
- Work collaboratively within a team environment, fostering positive relationships
- with colleagues, contractors, and other external partners involved in the
- construction process
- Make decisions independently with tact and diplomacy
- Physical Conditions and Nature of Work Contacts:
- Tasks involve frequent vehicle operation, extensive walking on construction sites
- over difficult terrain and steep slopes, and strenuous activities such as climbing
- over and around structures in various stages of construction.
- This occasionally involves lifting and carrying moderate weight (15-50 lbs.)
- bundles of construction documents or objects and is required during adverse
- weather conditions.
- At all times, this requires consistent alertness to avoid potentially hazardous
- situations.
- Regular contact with the public, staff, construction personnel, county officials,
- and design professionals while using judgment, tact, and consistent interpretation
- skills.
Education and Experience (number of years required): - A four (4) year degree or any combination of education and experience equivalent to a
- four (4) year degree in architecture, engineering, construction management or a related
- field and/or significant experience managing construction projects involving multiple
- trades.
Special Requirements: - Physical ability to carry (75 lbs.) field equipment, traverses difficult terrain, and
- maneuver within heavy construction zones.
- Possession of a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of
- Virginia.
- Special Vocational Requirements: (Voc. Ed., OJT, Licenses, Work Experience)
- Note: Work experience, vocational training, on the job training, may be substituted in place of
- experience and education qualifications as the district finds appropriate and acceptable.
