Hirsch Vineyards is an estate vineyard and winery on the West Sonoma Coast. We’re family-owned and biodynamic, producing site-driven Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with minimal intervention.

We’re seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Enologist to join our team for the 2024 harvest. The Enologist position is focused on lab work, but as we are a small team, there is the opportunity to participate in other aspects of the winemaking, if desired.

This position starts in August and continues through October or November. Actual start and end dates are harvest dependent.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
•  Perform lab work associated with all aspects of the winemaking process.
•  Maintain accurate and complete records in winery software.
•  Prepare reports and analyses
•  Collect grape cluster samples; prepare samples for analysis; analyze samples.
•  Monitor fermentations.
•  Regular sampling and analyses.
•  Prepare, deliver and track samples sent to external labs.
•  Very occasionally perform cellar tasks, such as extraction work, fruit processing/sorting table, cleaning, tank additions, barrel downs, etc.

REQUIREMENTS
•  Bachelor’s Degree in Enology or related field.
•  Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
•  Mathematical skills to be able to comprehend and analyze excel spreadsheets, chemical addition computations, and laboratory analyses.
•  Intermediate level experience with Microsoft Office and wine tracking software, such as VinTrace.
•  Valid California Driver’s license with clean DMV record. May require use of personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement.
•  Self-starter with strong work ethic, able to work independently and with a team.
•  Must be able to work outside in wet, hot, and cold conditions.
•  Demonstrated ability to lift 50lbs repeatedly.
•  Demonstrated ability to work extended hours, including 6-7 days per week.
•  Demonstrated ability to work on feet for extended hours, in a cellar environment.
•  Ability to sit, stand, squat, and climb ladders.
The Enologist must commit to the entire length of harvest. During the busiest harvest period you may work up to 6 days a week. Outside the busiest harvest period, work may be reduced to 4 or 5 days a week.

Hirsch Vineyards is in a remote location. Reliable transportation is required. Onsite housing is available.
