The Manager of the AES Hawai‘i Foundation is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Foundation, including governance, organization, administration and operations, board relations, external communication, and oversight of the Foundation’s mission, goals, objectives, and general operating policies. The Manager reports to the Foundation’s Board of Directors and works with the Board to develop the Foundation’s strategic vision and goals and the grantmaking programs that will implement the Foundation’s mission and goals.
Primary Responsibilities
Mission Alignment:
Ensure that all activities and initiatives align with the Foundation's mission and impact pillars
Regularly review the foundation's mission statement and impact pillars, ensure they are aligned with AES Hawai‘i priorities, and update if necessary.
Strategic Planning:
In partnership with the Board of Directors, develop and implement strategic plans to achieve the Foundation's goals.
Collaborate with the Board of Directors to establish and refine strategic priorities.
Financial Management:
Handle the foundation's finances, including budgeting, and financial reporting.
Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and reporting requirements.
Relationship Building:
Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal and external key stakeholders, including Board members, AES Hawai‘i staff, grantees, and community leaders.
Represent the Foundation in public forums and events.
Board Relations:
Work closely with the Board of Directors, providing regular updates on the foundation's activities and seeking input on key decisions.
Support Board members in fulfilling their governance responsibilities.
Compliance:
Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
Stay informed about changes in legislation that may impact the Foundation's operations.
Risk Management:
Identify and mitigate potential risks to the Foundation's operations and reputation.
Develop and implement policies and procedures to handle risks.
Continuous Learning:
Stay informed about trends and best practices in philanthropy and the Foundation's areas of focus.
Continuously seek opportunities for improvement and innovation.
Communication:
Develop and implement a communication strategy in consultation with AES Hawai‘i communications partners to raise awareness about the Foundation's work and impact.
Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Community Engagement:
Facilitate and lead community dialogue sessions to better understand the needs, concerns, and priorities of the local community.
Organize and participate in community meetings, ensuring a two-way communication flow between the Foundation and community members.
Conduct individual meetings with community leaders and organizations to build relationships and gain deeper insights into specific issues.
Grant Application Process:
Manage a transparent and accessible application process for community organizations seeking grant funding.
Provide guidance and support to community organizations throughout the grant application process.
Ensure that the grant application process is fair, inclusive, and aligned with the Foundation's mission and impact pillars.
Grant Evaluation and Selection:
Help to establish criteria for evaluating grant applications, considering the Foundation's mission and the identified needs of the community.
Collaborate with the Foundation's Board and relevant stakeholders to review and select grant recipients.
Communicate decisions to applicants, providing constructive feedback when possible.
Monitoring and Reporting:
Implement systems to monitor the progress of funded projects and evaluate their impact on the community.
Require regular reporting from grantees to track the use of funds and the achievement of project objectives.
Use monitoring and evaluation data to inform future grantmaking.
Capacity Building:
Identify opportunities for capacity building within the community organizations the Foundation supports.
Provide resources, training, and technical assistance to strengthen the effectiveness of grantee organizations.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI):
Integrate principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all aspects of the Foundation's community engagement and grantmaking processes.
Work towards ensuring equitable distribution of resources and opportunities among diverse communities.
Documentation and Communication:
Maintain clear records of community engagement activities, grant applications, and funding decisions.
Communicate openly and transparently about the Foundation's community engagement strategies and grantmaking outcomes.
Adaptation and Flexibility:
Stay adaptable and responsive to the evolving needs of the community, adjusting grantmaking strategies as necessary.
Seek feedback from the community on the Foundation's processes and make improvements based on that feedback.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $120.000 and $153.000/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
