SUPERVISOR: Director or designee.
SUMMARY: Works with the school's administration, the district director of Language Supports and Services and the district English language support (ELS) team to promote the district's ELS vision: To provide culturally and linguistically diverse learners with equitable access to cohesive learning opportunities that accelerate their social and academic English, provide meaningful access to grade level content, and increase their overall achievement through collaboration and co-teaching.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties and assignments may vary based on building assignment, academic year, and school needs. The following frequencies and percentages of time spent are approximations only.
1. Build capacity so that all teachers are equipped to design and deliver linguistically appropriate instruction all day, every day.
2. Collaborate and co-teach with mainstream classroom teachers.
3. Assess and progress monitor the language development and academic performance of multilingual learners in conjunction with mainstream classroom teachers.
4. Serve as a building resource for administrators and classroom teachers.
5. Serve as an advocate for multilingual learners and their families.
6. Ensure that multilingual learners receive English language development appropriate for their level of English proficiency and embedded within content.
7. Model, support and promote rigorous instruction and high standards for multilingual learners.
8. Connect and collaborate with administrators, families and students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Must hold a current Colorado teaching license with an endorsement in CLD - Culturally and Linguistically Diverse.
2. Knowledge, experience, training and willingness to foster and promote sheltered instruction and explicit language development in mainstream classrooms throughout the school.
4. Familiarity and working knowledge and application of both the Colorado English Language Proficiency (CELP- also known as WIDA standards) and Colorado Academic Standards (CAS).
5. Prefer experience, skills and ability in program development and coordination, organizational leadership, team-building and problem solving.
6. Experience working with multilingual learners from various language backgrounds.
7. Experience as an elementary mainstream/classroom teacher preferred.
8. Experience with co-teaching and/or sharing equal responsibility for planning, instructing, and assessing students preferred.
9. Experience using various approaches to co-teaching based on student needs preferred.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: All certifications, licenses, and registrations must be valid and unexpired.
1. 1 to 3 years mainstream classroom experience.
