General Description

Under the direction of the Vice President, Academic Services, the Dean, Academic Services (Educational Support Services/Language and Communication Studies) will provide leadership, direction and administrative responsibility to a diverse and comprehensive academic services area charged with promoting and delivering programs and services that enhance student success. The dean has the primary responsibility to build, maintain, and expand the instructional support programs, Educational Support Services, Learning Resource Center and Language and Communication Studies Division. The dean will collaborate with academic departments, student services departments, faculty, and staff to support student success and completion in degrees, certificates and/or transfer to four-year institutions. The dean supervises administrators, staff, faculty and student tutors and manages comprehensive educational support services on all three campuses. The dean will provide leadership for the District's Strategic Plan initiative to improve the rate at which students complete degrees, certificates and transfer objectives by integrating and aligning peer academic support programs. The dean manages programs and grants and ensures compliance with applicable laws, statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures connected to funding sources supervised by this position.

Job Duties

• Planning and coordination of the District's educational support programs and learning resources.
• Direct, supervise and evaluate assigned academic and classified staff; recommend for employment, direct the assignment of, and direct the evaluation of all assigned staff.
• Oversee the Director and staff in the District's Learning Resource Center.
• Supervise the District's tutorial services centers and collaborate with faculty in the math lab, writing center and language center.
• Develop the instructional class schedule for assigned division.
• Support, implement, and promote equity in all aspects of employment and education; encourage cultural and ethnic diversity in staffing, curriculum, programs and services.
• Facilitate professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
• Provide leadership, supervision and administrative direction to all functional areas of responsibility.

• Provide leadership in the District's dual-enrollment program with K-12 feeder Districts.

• Prepare, monitor, and recommend an annual budget for assigned Academic Services component of the District and approve and monitor fiscal expenditures for all programs within the areas of responsibility.
• Administer the review and evaluation of the Academic Services programs and make appropriate recommendations for change or improvement.
• Work cooperatively with District staff, coordinators, managers and administrators to achieve established goals and objectives for educational support programs.
• Stay up to date and keep informed of instructional technology.
• Develop and generate data and reports related to Academic programs.
• Develop and maintain educational support services at Tulare Center and Hanford Center Campuses, and other off-campus locations as necessary and ensure that educational support centers meet the student and faculty needs.
• Make recommendations to the Vice President of Academic Services regarding outreach and recruitment programs.
• Coordinate program review and planning for areas of responsibility; participate in and support the accreditation process.
• Serve as a member of Management Council, Instructional Council, Deans Council, Curriculum Committee and other academic committees as needed.
• Interpret District policy and administrative decision to those employees under areas of supervision.
• Prepare and present governing board matters, reports, and actions items related to areas of responsibility.
• Coordinate program review and program planning for areas of responsibility; participate in and support the accreditation process.
• Represent the college in District and State-level activities related to Academic Services Operations.
• Serve on committees as assigned;
• Assume other duties normally associated with management.

Qualifications

Any combination equivalent to:

• Master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
• One year administrative or management experience AND
• Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic social, economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students which pursuant to Title 5 53022 is a core competency and job requirement.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two or more years of administrative experience.
• Experience managing tutorial or other instructional support services programs.

Licenses and Other Requirements:

• Valid California's driver license.
• An incumbent must be insurable at the "standard rate" by the employer's insurance carrier at all times while employed in this classification by the College of Sequoias Community College District.
