The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Librarian position based out of our National Center office located in Dallas, TX.
Servicing as a "One Person Library," the Librarian manages the Association's library located at the National Center Library and provides library services to Association staff, consultants and volunteers at the National Center and regional offices. Customers may also include librarians and researchers. The librarian is responsible for maintaining the library’s budget, collection development & preservation, and cataloging. The librarian provides reference services, including research, database searching, interlibrary loan, cataloging, library instruction and bibliography.

- Provide literature review services to customers. This includes --Conducting detailed reference interviews; performing literature searches using multiple databases & database aggregators (such as Pubmed, Embase, CINAHL and Cochrane databases, etc.); Documenting search strategies for updates of literature reviews; creating bibliographies and research summaries.
- Provide journal articles and reports to customers. This includes-- Citation verification; accessing articles in print, microfilm, and online sources; processing ILL requests via Docline.
- Manage the library budget and oversee provision of serials and online database subscriptions. This includes--
subscriptions for online database services like Embase and EBSCO and potentially other services as needed. Ensuring that contracts are submitted, and invoices are paid. - Maintain library catalog. This includes cataloging new and donated books and materials; inputting serials records and reference requests. Familiarity with Inmagic DBTextworks and Genie a plus.
- Edit and update content in the library’s intranet site as well as the Association's History intranet site (currently in SharePoint Modern).
- Oversee collection development, preservation, and management of library materials This includes--evaluating donated books for possible addition to the collections; Shelf reading and weeding; ensuring that books and materials pertaining to the history of the Association, including the historic Paul Dudley White collection are maintained and preserved.
- ALA Accredited Masters of Library Science or additional work experience with related Master’s Degree
- Three (3) years of the following experience:
- Experience with library management and budgeting
- Knowledge of cataloging principles and resources
- Comprehensive knowledge of database searches and principles
- Experience in conducting in-depth literature reviews
- Experience with interlibrary loan processing
- Experience with serials management
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to negotiate with vendors for services
Preferred:
- One (1) years of experience using Inmagic TBTextworks or Inmagic Genie products
- Knowledge of SharePoint Modern or willingness to learn to create and edit content with SharePoint Modern
