Job description
Are you looking for more than just a generic printing and reproduction job? Do you want to work with California’s historical documents first-hand? The Secretary of State’s Archives Division (California State Archives) is looking for a creative, driven, and dedicated person to become part of its team. The State Archives will challenge the individual to be open-minded and flexible in finding solutions to governmental and programmatic issues and situations.
Under the supervision of the Archives Services Manager, the Digital Composition Specialist II (DCS II) this position performs complex work utilizing high-end software applications and a variety of equipment while consulting with customer (internal and external) in order to make recommendations for creating the desired product to ensure customer expectations are met in accordance with the job specifications and the State Archives policies, procedures and guidelines. Perform skilled digital composition work to operate equipment to digitize materials, photograph select records to create digital surrogates for the Reference, Exhibits, and other State Archives’ programs; operate imaging equipment to produce preservation and access 16 mm and 35 mm microfilm copies; produce 3D quality copies of ephemera; conduct quality control checks and correct any questionable image files and print materials; track and maintain deadlines; digitize AV and microfilm materials; complete limited print formatting and print exhibit facsimiles, posters, and signs; monitor and maintain hazardous waste and Imaging Lab equipment; conduct research and assist with procedure development and updates; and develop and provide imaging training to staff and the public.
