Job Description: Position works with Assistant Dean and the three offices comprising Student Success at the Newhouse School, Recruitment, Advising and Career Development. This position is responsible for multiple projects including transfer and first year admission, all awards processes, student funding requests, student participation in School governance, event planning and marketing of events, assessing effectiveness of student success initiatives, maintaining the School's alumni network and other projects and areas of need in student support.
Qualifications: - Bachelors degree required.
- Requires excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, strong writing skills to create correspondence and marketing pieces.
- Solid judgment to make decisions on your own.
- Works with confidential information so discretion and tact is required. Must be able to balance multiple projects at once and switch gears quickly.
- Ability to work independently and anticipate and self-directed projects required.
Job Specific Qualifications: - Knowledge of Excel required.
- InDesign experience and strong technical skills extremely helpful.
- Knowledge of SU preferred.
Responsibilities: - Student Awards & Scholarships = responsible for implementing and overseeing a wide portfolio of student award processes and maintaining scholarship portal.
- SU Scholar application and selection process; work closely with faculty committee, manage and execute entire application process, liaison to SU Scholarship office on campus.
- Newhouse School Student Awards; oversee entire process each academic year for distribution, collection and dissemination to faculty reviewers for over 1,000 student award applications. Plan and execute awards ceremony held each Spring for Dean to present awards.
- Faculty of the Year, Award; work with student committee to execute the polling and selection of annual award to name a Newhouse teacher as Teacher of the Year at Convocation; conduct polling of graduating students using Qualtrics.
- Kappa Tau Alpha: oversee process for selecting students based on national chapter criteria on an annual basis.
- Scholarship Portal: Maintain portal that allows students to make individual requests for funding from the Newhouse School.
- Hire and supervise graduate student worker.
- Recruitment Activities = perform a variety of activities regarding admission and recruitment to the Newhouse School
- Conduct multiple weekly information sessions for prospective students and their families as part of Newhouse Visitors Center staff. Meet with families to discuss the Schools majors, curriculum, admission process, etc.
- Dispense information about the intra-university transfer process to admitted students across Syracuse University who are seeking to transfer to the Newhouse School.
- Assist Newhouse Visitors Center and recruitment team during admissions events and visiting days with set up, communicating with families and staffing information table.
- Career Development Center Support = work with CDC director on initiatives and priorities that require additional staffing support.
- Maintain Career Development Centers alumni LinkedIn account for the Newhouse School. Ensure contact information is up to date. Communicate with alumni to encourage participation.
- Student Success Tech Guru = serve as Qualtrics, Excel, Google Suite, Microsoft Suite and all other software guru for Student Success departments at the Newhouse School. Create surveys, ballots, applications, and submission portals to support all aspects of the division. Review these tools annually and update and tweak as needed.
- Student Governance = Initiate and organize solicitation of student nominees and election process for Newhouse Student Representative Committee at beginning of academic year and end of year. Set up ballots, distribute to students, compile election results and notify student nominees. Assign students to sit on faculty-led school committees. Notify faculty committee chairs of student assignments and handle any issues that arise with student participation and/or questions throughout the academic year.
- Intra-University Transfer Coordinator = Coordinate intra-university application and admission process twice a year. Update instructions and application on Newhouse website annually. Compile all application materials and create accurate, accessible
database for faculty committee to access and review. Work closely with faculty committee chair on timeline and facilitate timely review of applications each June and January. Provide advice and technical support to faculty committee members as needed. Communicate with student applicants to clarify application process and answer questions. Notify students who were not admitted and work with assistant.
