SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision of the Executive Director, Student Success and HSI Project Director the incumbent will oversee the ongoing direction, development, delivery, and improvement of services for the college. The incumbent must be familiar with laws and regulations regarding student information, including FERPA. The incumbent will be responsible to provide quality academic advisement to students in STEM majors, high school outreach, orientation sessions, admissions, registration, and financial aid conducted by the college.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS):
Bachelor's degree and two (2) years directly related full-time work experience or Associate's degree and four (4) years' directly related work experience or six (6) years of equivalent combination of education and experience of which four (4) years must be directly related work experience. Part-time work experience will be pro-rated. The total pro-rated amount must equal the minimum number of years listed.
PREFERRED:
Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish
CERTIFICATION OR LICENSES:
Valid Texas Driver License
The incumbent will:
- Identify potential STEM students, especially Hispanic and low-income populations.
- Identify AEL/BCE students to consider STEM majors, prepare academically for STEM and take advantage of opportunities accorded to STEM majors.
- Develop and foster close working relationships with regional high schools and Texas Bioscience Institute.
- Advise undergraduates regarding programs of study, academic plans, career information and guidance activities, educational/degree planning, course selection, and related support services for STEM programs offered by Temple College.
- Review and interpret TSI assessment scores to determine proper course placement.
- Analyze unofficial transcripts for course equivalencies.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and records of services provided to learners to include registration, add/drop, and withdrawal functions while adhering to all FERPA guidelines.
- Recruit participants for STEM majors primarily from Hispanic and low-income populations.
- Work with ISD administration to encourage completion of advanced math and science courses with a focus on Dual Credit.
- Provide support services to Dual Credit students.
- Provide STEM counseling, Host STEM workshops (evenings included), and Plan lunch and learn sessions for students and families.
- Assist learners with establishing schedules for completion of course work and transfer planning while balancing course responsibilities/requirements.
- Collaborate in the activities connected with student orientation, group advising, and outreach. Participate in Welcome Week, TC Transfer, Summer Bridge, University partner programs, TC commencement ceremony and other student-focused events.
- Provide guidance for students in the areas of technology including, but not limited to, accessing TC web services, web registration and online learning.
- Assist department with implementation of student planning, annual transfer pathway updates and assembly of University transfer documentation.
- Attend professional development activities and conferences.
- Source and coordinate diverse speakers in STEM fields.
- Participate in training to identify mental health problem signals and provide mental health referrals as appropriate.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve divisional, departmental and institutional goals.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures.
- Communicate with Faculty regarding learner academic challenges.
- Identify and refer students for tutoring.
- Develop and implement training materials for students, staff and faculty.
- Perform job-related or other duties as assigned.
