Job Description

Under limited supervision, performs ECHO procedures and complex diagnostic ultrasound procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Procedures include pediatric, neonatal, and transeseophageal.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

CLINICAL PRACTICES

QUALITY ASSURANCE PATIENT EDUCATION

Educates patient/family regarding echocardiography exam. Educates patient/family to explain the procedure and reduce anxiety and to obtain patient cooperation.


DOCUMENTATION

Education and Experience

Associate's degree with a focus in science required. Certification in either CCI or ARDMS for pediatric echocardiography is required. For recent graduates of pediatric sonographer school, certification in either CCI or ARDMS for pediatric echocardiography is required within 6 weeks of completion of the school.


Associate's degree in Cardiovascular Technology. Registered with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), or Cardiovascular Credentialing International. A minimum of 6 months scanning experience in pediatric. Echocardiography program or has worked as a pediatric sonographer in another hospital base facility.


Licenses and Certifications

Certified as a registered adult Echocardiographer with either the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Within 6 weeks of hire the sonographer must have certification and be registered in pediatric echocardiography with either the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR in adult, child infant required.
