Program Coordinator

Mission
The mission of the Atlanta-North GA Labor Council is to improve the lives of working families to bring economic justice to the workplace and social justice to our community. Accomplishing this mission we will build and change the American labor movement.
The Atlanta North Georgia Labor Council is comprised of 18 Metro - Atlanta counties including Butts, Carroll, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, Dekalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Newton, Paulding, Rockdale, Spalding and Walton. We are one of nearly 500 state and local labor councils of the AFL-CIO and are the heart of the labor movement. We are democratically elected bodies dedicated to representing the interests of working people at the state and local level. We mobilize our members and community partners to advocate for social and economic justice and we strive daily to vanquish oppression and make our communities better for all people—regardless of race, color, gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, or ethnic or national origin.
Purpose of position:
The Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating office operations, programmatic activities, and procedures in order to ensure organizational effectiveness at the Atlanta North Georgia Labor Council (ANGLC).
Scope:
This is not a managerial position. The Program Coordinator reports to, and is under the direction of, the Executive Director of the ANGLC. The PC will serve as the day to day point of contact with the affiliate organizations and community partners in accordance with the approved strategic plan.
Programmatic Duties:
- Coordinate frequently with agencies, affiliates and other organizations
- Work with the political committee to track local political issues
- Carry out communications to affiliates and other community groups
- Coordinate and implement events for the ANGLC
- Create and manage outreach efforts via email and social media
- Maintain office calendars via the google calendar
- Send affiliates per capita invoices monthly
- Answer incoming calls and emails in a timely & professional manner
- Order and maintain adequate office supplies
- Retrieve and distribute incoming mail
- Assist in preparation of grant requests
- Participate in rallies, strikes and other affiliate actions and activities
- Help build awareness of the local union movement through some community outreach
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Must have own transportation and the ability to travel to a variety of local and state-wide locations
- Committed to the goals of the labor movement
- Experience working in politically sensitive situations with demonstrated diplomacy
- Minimum 2-4 years of legislative or electoral campaign experience
- Strong writer with demonstrated ability to clearly communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences across multiple writing styles and forms
- Self-directed and able to design, launch, and manage projects across a range of organizations and sectors
- Prior experience with union organizing
- Knowledge of internal and external organizing methods and tactics
- Experience with online tools for remote communication and project collaboration
- Ability to communicate ideas and research to a variety of audiences (funders, directors, staff etc.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Offices software including Excel, Word & PowerPoint
- Comfortable giving public presentations
- Excellent listening, interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills
- Effective time management skills, including demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
- Ability to accept feedback and to provide feedback effectively and with sensitivity ability to work well with a diverse range of co-workers, leaders and organizations
- A spirit of creativity and innovation in developing programs
- Must be a team player as well as able to take own initiative
- Able to multitask and work in a high pressure, fast paced environment
- Able to travel within the Atlanta metro region on a regular basis
- Able to work evenings and weekends as needed
