This position is not covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State of Colorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins).


This is a paid temporary position limited to a maximum of 9 months from the date of hire.
In addition to being a fantastic place to work, CDOT offers all temporary employees paid sick leave. Temporary employees accrue one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, capped at 48 hours.

CDOT has 2 vacancies for a temporary Highway Maintenance Specialist with our Traffic Team in Pueblo , CO.


CDOT offers $23/hour with the opportunity for overtime. The majority of CDOT’s temporary Highway Maintenance positions work 40 hours per week.

Description of Job

What You Will Do
No two days are exactly the same in CDOT highway maintenance. Your daily work activities change based on project needs and also vary based on weather, environment, and road conditions. You will be on-call on a rotating basis as well as subject to call to respond to weather and other emergencies. You will typically work in a team environment, as each maintenance patrol location has at least one lead highway maintenance specialist and multiple highway maintenance specialists. Your main job activities include but are not limited to:



Operating Heavy Equipment:
Operating heavy equipment such as, but not limited to 1 to 2 ton trucks, single axle and tandem axle flat bed trucks, crash attenuators, forklifts and donkey fork lifts, bucket truck.



Computer / Paper Work:
Computer work and paper work - Imputing time into time sheets, looking up work orders, reading and understanding traffic control plans, reading and understanding Job Hazard Assessments, filling out reports, perform and assist in the planning of daily work activities. Manuals and other resources will be available for additional guidance if required.



Field Work:
Prepping trucks and equipment for use on daily projects, installing and removing signs, hand held auger, portable cement mixer, compressor, generator, motorized and non-motorized pallet jack, walk behind and riding grinder, walk behind and riding tape machine, propane torch, lift gate on hook truck. Hand tools, such as shovels, breaker bar, post hole diggers, wrenches, drills, string lines, spray paint, hammers, hand held band saw, tape measure, measuring wheel, box cutter knife and additional tools and power tools required for markings projects. Addition training and guidance will be provided as needed.



Traffic Control:
Setting signs for traffic control, setting cones, operating crash attenuator as a follow truck, operating stinger on crash attenuator, operating the VMS on the Crash attenuator, operating the lift gate on the hook truck, loading and unloading supply truck, strapping down material onto flatbed, hauling material to work sites. operating state radio for communications.



Equipment Maintenance:
Equipment maintenance, such as oil changes, greasing drive lines, washing equipment, equipment inspection, minor equipment repairs. Guidance, training and instruction will be given prior to any work to be done.

Must have at least two (2) years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience.
AND

Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License Class A or B with no K (airbrake) restrictions.
