Position: Elementary School Principal
STATUS: Probationary
Location: Presidential Park Elementary
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Successful candidate will be a highly qualified leader, with valid NYS SBA/SBL/SAS certification, and a minimum of three years administrative experience. Excellent interpersonal skills required, must be knowledgeable and attentive to scholar, family, and school community needs. The Elementary Principal will be responsible for ensuring the District's mission remains as a centerpiece of the school program as it continues to grow and to strive towards excellence. Middletown is looking for an individual with a vision for how an excellent education can change a young person's trajectory in life, as well as the experience, creativity, and leadership skills to inspire and work with all members of the school community. This includes, but is not limited to the District team, Elementary leadership team, educators, our valued families, and the board to make our vision a reality. The Elementary Principal serves as the lead administrator for the building, providing leadership and direction for the school, under the direction of the Superintendent of Schools, and in collaboration with all school community stakeholders. We expect our school leaders to possess a deep knowledge of great teaching and instruction, and to have demonstrated success in engaging and inspiring a school community to achieve high levels of student achievement. We seek self-reflective leaders who understand how race, class, ethnicity, income, disability, and other aspects of difference are integral to our scholars' academic and social development and who have experience with urban communities like Middletown's.
- Preferred 10 years of experience in education;
- Demonstrated success in leading teams through productive and challenging work, setting a positive, supportive atmosphere and leading with integrity.
- Demonstrated success in urban school settings;
- Excellent oral and written communication and conflict resolution skills.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Communicates openly and often with the Superintendent of Schools, Central Office Leadership, Elementary Leadership, staff members, and the school community.
- Demonstrate an ability to build educators' skill and capacity to provide powerful learning opportunities for all scholars,
- Administer all of the school policies, rules, and safety regulations.
- Promote and manage operations of buildings including but not limited to the buildings and grounds, buildings and grounds staff and facility use.
- Lead the instructional program working collaboratively with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. Must have strong instructional experience in closing gaps associated with urban populations.
- Be attentive to school - community relationships and work to strengthen student and family engagement in education.
- All other duties related to the position as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction.
SALARY: Pursuant to the Middletown School Administrators Association (MSAA) Contract
